Curly hair shampoo and conditioner recommendations

Hoping some curly haired people can help! Dd1 is having her pictures taken on Friday and I'm looking for some recommendations for shampoo and conditioner that fit in with the curly girl method? Also any recommendations for products. She has beautiful curly hair but lately they have looked dull and just a bit flat! I've been using Maui moisture on her for the last couple of weeks. I just want her hair to look as amazing as it does when she gets out of the sea! Grin

DevaCurl No-Poo was a godsend for me - although it takes a while for hair to 'settle in' to a co-wash rather than a shampoo.

Not sure it'd be great for if you want 'results' before Friday, although well worth looking into longer term.

I’d recommend looking on r/curlyhairuk (Reddit in case you’re not aware!) as there’s a handy table of all products.

I’m currently using cantu co-wash, African pride gel and Pantene mousse but it leaves a cloud of flakes for the first day. Curls look great I just have to make sure I’m not wearing a black top!

Long term recommendation is great thanks! Will check out Reddit also

Recommend Boots own curl cream - leaves my naturally curly hair frizz free and shiny. You can either scrunch dry or leave to dry naturally

RomanyQueen1 · 25/03/2019 21:38

CANTU that's all I can say. It's changed my life, even before I have the hair cut of a lifetime. The condition is terrible and all these products are fab, smell of coconut and rarely full price in all shops.

Boucléme stuff is nice. Might all depend on the type of curl though.

AnnaMagnani · 26/03/2019 09:18

Am also a fan of Boucleme.

Not sure anything will make a difference before Friday I’m fact it could make it worse. There tends to be a transition period, I’d stick with what you’ve got for now

Naijamama · 26/03/2019 11:04

Cantu is pretty good, but I really love the Giovanni products. You can get them on Amazon. Not very cheap, but worth the money, I think.

TableforJane · 26/03/2019 11:17

Thanks for this thread! The reddit page is great, Diana!

The Cantu co-wash... is that just a conditioner? Never heard of co-wash. Do you have to use shampoo too?

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 26/03/2019 11:55

The co-wash is used in place of shampoo and conditioner - I think the ‘co’ refers to conditioner. At any rate, I don’t use anything else when I use that.

Cantu is available in Superdrug as well which is handy!

@TableforJane: co-wash TRANSFORMED my hair.

I've got Type 3A hair which always felt dry, and I'd get a kind of weird cocker-spaniel triangle-head whenever I washed my hair with shampoo.

My curls would flatten and I'd lose volume on top.

So I stopped using shampoo except for once a week, and only conditioned, which was much better but I still never felt 100% clean.

And then I went to Unruly Curls in London and they told me about cleansing co-wash... best comparison for me is it's like using a cream cleanser on your face, but for your hair. It doesn't lather and it's not soapy, but it still cleans your hair without drying it out.

My curls are pingy and shiny and more moisturised than they've ever been. WELL worth a try.

TableforJane · 26/03/2019 15:26

I’m definitely going to give it a try, thanks! Not sure which ‘type’ of hair I have though.

MeganPotter · 26/03/2019 15:42

Been struggling with the same problem too, constantly find myself switching from product to product, but never tried Cantu. Definitely will give it a go too!

RocketPockets · 26/03/2019 15:51

There's a brand called curly Ellie I think that's really good for children with curly hair, seen lots of good things about Smile

lolbrador · 26/03/2019 16:26

Thanks for all these tips Smile
