My lovely spensive shampoo has sulphate and I thought they were bad?

So I got a lovely colour done a while back and I asked the stylist what shampoo and conditioner to use. He doesn't sell them so I thought it would be best advice. He recommended Loreal Serie Expert which I have dutifully been buying and using. I've swapped to the nutrifier conditioner but still use the colour shampoo as I haven't run out yet. My hair is in great shape - although barely using heat products cause my baby is scared of the hairdryer probably helps. But I've just noticed the shampoo has sodium laureth sulfate. I thought that was a bad thing that damages hair? Should I swap to something else when this finally runs out?
I have thick hair that is normally coarse with a bit of a wave.

SLS can be very drying for some people with sensitive skin, it's also not always great with curly hair and can cause colour to fade quickly.

However if you haven't had a problem with it then there's no real reason to change it. I personally don't have a problem with sulphates despite having coloured hair so I still use them.

It's weird it's so high in a product specifically for coloured hair if it makes it fade. I had to get it in Sallys and it's pricey enough so naively expected it to be high end, but now I wonder if there's a decent high street version.

The thing is if you use a conditioner with silicones in it you also need SLS or you get a horrible buildup. That's the con really - squeaky clean SLS hair is smoothed by silicones, gets dull, SLS makes hair squeaky clean again and then you add the silicone. Repeat.
