Checking l’ve understood my bra size?

Willowtreecottage · 24/03/2019 17:16

I’ve just measured for a couple of new ones.
Underneath l’m exactly 32 inches / over the top: bending over 38. That’s a 32f isn’t it?
Thank you!
I’ve not normally been able to tolerate a 32 band - but obviously that’s my measurement...l don’t think l went as high as an f cup though?
Thank you!

Anyone please? Smile

Yes, that would be a good starting point. Make sure you test the band size first by trying the bra on back to front. If it does up on the loosest hook (and you can only pull it about 1" away from your body), then stick with that band. Then put it on properly and if the band starts feeling too tight, you might need to try bigger cup sizes. thebetterbracampaign.blogspot.com/p/fitting-advice.html

Thank you so much!
That’s really informative- Flowers

Sorry, forgot.
I should always use the loosest hook shouldn’t l - then use the others as the bra gets older? Smile

Is it not a 32E? (A B, C, D ,DD, E)

Willowtreecottage · 24/03/2019 20:30

Oh? Is it? I forgot about the DD bit!

OP posts:
KrazyKatlady · 24/03/2019 20:34

I thought that would be 36b??? [Confused]
Dont you add 4 or 5 inches to the underneath measurement?

KrazyKatlady · 24/03/2019 20:35

Oops messed up the emoji!! 🙈

dementedpixie · 24/03/2019 20:37

No you don't add extra inches to any measurements. That's an old method of measuring and gives you a bra too big in the back and too small in the cup

bourbonbiccy · 24/03/2019 20:41

Sorry is it not a 32FF
A,B,C,D DD,E,F,FF- is the 8 sizes up to give you the 38inches or am I completely misreading the thread ?
Sorry if I'm causing even more confusion

Baconislife · 24/03/2019 20:43

How do I measure myself for a bra?

dementedpixie · 24/03/2019 20:43

The difference between 32 and 38 is 6 so it's 6 sizes up.

mummmy2017 · 24/03/2019 20:46

Make sure you try before you buy
That you don't bulge and have side boobs.
That it is not so loose that when you lean forward it gapes.
Balcony bras were always a no for me.. as I fell out when running.

bourbonbiccy · 24/03/2019 20:56

@dementedpixie ahh I had only had a quick read and missed the bit ( most important ) that stated
For each inch difference between your band size and your overbust measurement, you get a cup (starting at A)

I just thought you started at A if you measured 30, thanks for clarification and making me actually concentrate and read it properly 😮😮😮

Cuch · 24/03/2019 21:44

It’s 6 sizes up so it’s either a 32E or a 32DD depending on if you start without A or AA.

dementedpixie · 24/03/2019 21:46

AA means less than an inch difference whereas A is 1 inch. You start from A not AA

SorrelForbes · 25/03/2019 07:03

Sorry OP, I was rushing. Starting point is 32E. Bear in mind that different styles and brands will measure slightly differently from each other. Many people struggle with moulded tshirt bra styles for example.

Willowtreecottage · 25/03/2019 08:04

I made a mistake yesterday anyway Sorrel
After measuring again,my over is 39. So 32f is correct!
In fact, more like 39 and a bit. I don’t pull tight do l? ( even if that were possible 😆)
Thank you so much :)

I wear a 32DD but I measure about 30 underneath and 38 on top. I can't tolerate a 30 band, you might want to try a 34 too.

Willowtreecottage · 25/03/2019 09:27

Ok-thanks Of my 34 bands ( although so comfortable) are too loose!
My boobs fall out of my 34d or ( dd)
I thought l might just have to suffer a bit! Wink

KatharinaRosalie · 25/03/2019 09:57

Of this might also be because you could use a bigger cup - those measurements should make you rather 30FF or 32F.

Ofthread · 25/03/2019 10:23

Oh gawd, really?

WeepingWillowWeepingWino · 25/03/2019 10:28

I'm 'officially' (according to Bravissimo/MN wisdom) a 32 F. I measure 30 under my boobs. However, I wear a 34 E (on the loosest hook) and in fact often find that too tight a band, I actually feel like it's restricting my breathing sometimes.

So, I think for some of us Bravissimo sizing is correct, and for others M&S sizing (ie adding 4-6 inches). The trouble I find it that it's only once you've worn the bra for a couple of hours that you can really gauge if it's too tight or too loose.
