Reducing plastics: solid conditioners etc

Like many I'm trying to reduce the amount of plastic packaging and have started to use solid shampoo bars which are great. However, I'm not getting on with the conditioners as they don't seem to lather or do anything! Any advice on good brands or normal conditioners in environmentally friendly packaging? Thank you!

I have used the lush bars before, the reason they don't lather is because they don't have the very unnecessary chemical in them that makes the lather, they still do the job though.

Conditioner doesn't generally lather though?
Having said that, I've never managed to get on with solid conditioner so weaning myself off it by using less often, replacing occasionally with vinegar rinse and the one I do use is refillable at local shop.

When I use it I hold it in my hand and smooth it onto the ends of my hair with the other hand behind the hair. Difficult to explain but that's the way I do it. Works well.

I've never had a conditioner that lathers???

Thanks all. Lather is probably a poor term, I meant that the bar just gets slippery but get very little to actually put on my hair! However, I think I've probably been using too much of the stuff anyway.

Try dilute apple cider vinegar sprayed on your hair after you've washed it, comb it through, then rinse it off.
I read that the soap dries out your hair, which is great for greasy hair, and the ACV acts as a conditioner.
I've always had greasy hair and had to wash it daily, now I only use soap (I use the Dr Bronners baby bar soap), I no longer need the acv rinse and I only need to wash my hair every 3rd day.
My DD who has much thicker, less greasy hair, uses the ACV rinse and her hair is great.

I do the same as @tapdancingmum and smooth the conditioner bar over my hair. I use Jungle from Lush and it works well for me!

I rub the lush bar over my hair. It doesn’t get slippery the way liquid conditioner does but it seems to work ok.

In our small market town the small independent health food shop is offering a refill service for shampoo and conditioner which means I can use the same plastic bottle until it wears out.
Maybe there’s somewhere near you that offers a similar service.

Thanks Dapple, that's what I'm hoping to find! Will also persevere with the conditioner bar a bit longer and try to use it differently.
