Can anybody recommend a cleanser/face wash for my soon to be ten year old DS? We're using Professor Scrubbington at the moment but it's quite drying. There's an array out there but I'd rather have a recommendation. Thanks.

The Good Things range is in Sainsburys and they have products especially for young skin.

Cerave Hydrating Cleanser from Boots. Very gentle on all skin types and unisex packaging too Grin

SnowdropsiUnderTrees · 22/03/2019 15:29

Just use supermarket own brand facial wipes for sensitive skin. Just as effective as expensive brands.

Cetaphil - white/blue bottle so pretty plain and unfancy

Pump bottle

Recommended by Dermatologists .

I'd avoid wipes and Cetaphil - www.carolinehirons.com/2016/09/cetaphil-cleanser.html. Cerave is good.

babypossum · 22/03/2019 22:19

Thanks everybody. I'd rather get him into a routine of washing his face rather than using wipes. Not sure he'd go for them either...

Oh, yes, definitely Cetaphil. No wipes! I’ll be honest, I pay a fortune on skincare, Botox etc and the only cleanser the people I go to use is Cetaphil x

My DD (11) has been using the simple range. She started with the micellar water and moisturiser and had been using for about a year. She has fairly dry skin though. I'll do the same with DS when he's old enough.

CalamityJune · 22/03/2019 22:37

I would go for a Simple milky cleanser

dietcokemegafan · 22/03/2019 22:38

Does a ten year old need a cleanser? What's wrong with water?

willyloman · 22/03/2019 22:48

Soap and water.

peoplearepeople · 22/03/2019 22:59

My son uses qv gentle wash. He likes it as it comes in a pump bottle so isn't a faff to use which means he is more likely to wash his face and that can often be half the battle with young boys!
It's gentle and unscented and you only need a tiny little bit so very economical as it lasts for ages. I would stay away from any harsh cleansers for now and keep things as simple as possible.
We also found that this was the only cleanser that helped clear up his spotty skin at one point.

babypossum · 23/03/2019 08:48

Dietcokemegafan I'd say he does need to use a wash/cleanser over just water as he plays a lot of sport so gets very sweaty/muddy and has already had a couple of pimples. Some really great recommendations, thank you. I'll take a look at all of them and go from there!

Garnier cleansing milk. Rinses clean without stripping skin. No particles, foam or harsh alcohols - so will be great for preventing spots. Cheap and widely available.

yellowsun · 23/03/2019 18:32

My 9 year old has started using cerave. I want him to get into a good routine in case he inherits my bad skin!

dietcokemegafan · 23/03/2019 18:37

There's no evidence that cleanser helps spots, honestly I'd say get him to use nothing for a month and see if it makes a difference. Crazy young to get him thinking he needs these sort if products

yellowsun · 23/03/2019 19:48

‘These sort of products’ are kinder in the skin than soap when water isn’t effectiveness enough against being spotty.

yellowsun · 23/03/2019 19:49

Harebellsies · 23/03/2019 20:28

Orange flower water
Pure rosewater?

WhereAreWeNow · 24/03/2019 07:05

DD (11) still just washes her face with a flannel and water. No soap or cleanser. If/when she gets teenage spots I'll suggest she uses La Roche Posay effaclar gel cleanser. I don't see the point of using products if she doesn't need them yet.

FogCutter · 24/03/2019 07:42

DS uses the Tom Farmer facewash (and I steal it- it's lovely and doesn't dry the skin out)

TapasForTwo · 24/03/2019 07:45

You can get gentle facial soaps. Not a plastic bottle in sight.

lotusbell · 24/03/2019 08:53

I bought this for my 12 year old, think he sometimes remembers to use it in the shower Hmm
www.greenpeople.co.uk/shop/by-collection/organic-teen-products/oy-foaming-clear-skin-face-wash-100ml
Unhelpfullybout of stock here but can be bought elsewhere. Theres a newish brand called Spots and Stripes, I think. Looks good but I think a bit expensive personally.

TeaforTwoBiscuitOrThree · 24/03/2019 09:00

Cetaphil! We got it recommended by family member who is a beautician, very gentle on skin and effective.

Micah · 24/03/2019 09:03

Mine use the child’s farm body/bath/wash products. Mild ingredients, and effective.

Does he need a specific face wash? Mine just jump in the shower and use the above.
