Those of you who wear glasses how many pairs do you have? Mine were so expensive (Zeiss varifocals) I’m thinking one pair is enough ... but then I quite fancy a change of frames too ...

I've got quite a straightforward prescription and used to buy whichever frames I really loved every 2/3 years and would think 'sod the expense, they're on my face,I want to feel good and look good' but I've changed approach over last few years when I picked up a few sunglasses in range of styles and spares for work/to chuck in handbag after suggestion to order online with Specky FourEyes because I was so careful with my one pair! I'm delighted with them - I am now pretty heavy handed with them, don't have to carry my single pair around everywhere so have some in my office, in the car and like have a few styles of sunglasses to wear and when I got them, they were on offer at £12 a pair. My optician checked them for me - all good! Saved a fortune.

I replace mine every two or three years, but I have varifocals and wear them all day every day. The last couple of times, they have added up to around £600 for frames and lenses, so while I'd like more choices, it's too costly to be viable. I had a pair of old frames reglazed for my current reading Rx for back up, and I can manage to wear the previous Rx in emergencies. But I'd like some polarized Rx sunnies too.

justinhawkinsnavalfluff - ? re online varifocals

How do you think they are going to be able to fot them correctly and then measure them up ?

Varifocals need careful measuring and fitting.

ilovecherries · 22/03/2019 11:31

One currentprescription pair, and one current prescription sunglasses. Plus old pair with a ‘get by’ prescription that I keep in the car for emergencies. I mainly wear contacts now though - when I just wore glasses, I usually had three current pairs plus sunglasses. My prescription isn’t very complex though.

AuntieOxident · 22/03/2019 11:37

The online specs suppliers like Glasses Direct won't do my prescription, they only do up to a certain strength.
(As I found out after going through the rigmarole of choosing frames, sending in my prescription, plus a pair of VFs I was currently wearing so they could get the measurements etc etc. Oops, no sorry, don't go as high as that..... grrr.)

I have one prescription pair - the frames are purple by Retro & I wear a prism lens.

My prescription sunglasses are by Vogue.

I'd like to get another eye test then invest in some other pairs of glasses.

trader21c · 22/03/2019 18:45

The first pair the optician made up of varifocals really didn’t cut it for me at work - I struggled all day with the computer screen (essilor varilux) so went back to the optician and they changed them for these Zeiss with 1mm extra on the intermediate distance - work far better

One pair. I've worn glasses since I was nine, script changes every test so it's a lot of money. Am very short sighted, long sighted too now, plus astigmatism. So my specs are about £600 a pair and I need new ones every two years.

I did get some sunglasses for the first time last time but I hate them, they are single vision so no good for day to day wear, OK for driving as long as I don't need to read the dash or sat nav, and they make me feel queasy. I think they were wrongly dispensed.

JaceLancs · 22/03/2019 21:37

My everyday glasses cost around £900 so I can only afford one pair at a time
I do have prescription sunglasses as well
I also have non varifocal pair of glasses which I wear for gym swimming or other sports when I don’t want to risk damaging the more expensive pairs

goose1964 · 22/03/2019 21:51

One, varifocals and a single prescription sunglasses

itwaseverthus · 22/03/2019 21:57

Around ten pairs of specs and three prescription sunglasses. I buy decent Celine or Givenchy frames online at TK Maxx and have the lenses fitted at Reglazemyglasses or buy full sets at SpeccyFourEyes as they have brilliant sales.

DontCallMeCharlotte · 22/03/2019 23:23

1 pair occupational varifocals always left in the office

1 pair reading glasses current prescription

Last prescription readers - still useable if I can get them off DH who's always losing his. They're a bit catseye so he looks like Dame Edna!

2 pairs bifocals sunglasses

Used my second free pair to get non prescription Roxy sunglasses and as sunglasses they're rubbish which is disappointing @ £125 a pop!

Many many ready readers all over the house. No idea where most of them came from.

dontgobaconmyheart · 23/03/2019 02:21

Just one pair, I hate wearing them- nothing to do with the visual effect, I actually think I look better with them on (and cooler) but they make me feel a bit dizzy Confused (opticians checked them twice over and is adamant all is well and I need to adjust, I've just never done it)I love wasting money apparently!Hmm

DeRigueurMortis · 23/03/2019 02:33

I have one pair - ridiculously expensive (£500).

I need them for driving and watching the TV (if I want to know the difference between standard and high definition anyway).

However I think I'm going to have to get another pair - essentially prescription sunglasses as I find now we are entering spring that I'm struggling to evaluate if i can see better driving and dealing with glare or wearing sunglasses Sad

Before I get shouted at my optometrist has stated that my sight without glasses does not fall below the legal threshold for safe driving.

However, I'm much more comfortable wearing my glasses whilst driving as I get better visibility of signs in the distance.

Given I don't have to wear them all the time, "style" is less of an issue but I still want something I feel good wearing.

I have 2 pairs of Tom Ford sunglasses that were £££ so I'm going to look at the reglazing option mentioned by itwas for one pair as that might be the answer to my problems Smile
