Acne scars

Ds has some bad acne scars and I said I would get him a treatment to help. Had anyone had success with microdermabrasion or dermaluxe or anything else that made a difference to the appearance of scars please?

I’ve had luck with murad products aimed st reducing pigmentation to fade the colour of scars. I had microdermabrasion but don’t remember being impressed. If I was young (I’ve had acne for years) I’d go to a dermatologist for recommendations if it was affordable.

Depends what type of scars. Hyperpigmentation or atrophic? My scars have improved a lot (rolling scars, plus some box scars, plus some hyperpigmentation) but only really after I threw a lot of money at a dermatologist who knew what they were talking about. Feel free to DM and I can give you further info - there are lots of things out there which can help.

It is great that you are starting to help him early and his skin is young/full of collagen which will help.

I think the appropriate course of action depends on the type and status of the scars, as sigh has pointed out. Is his acne active? Is he on any medical treatments?

There are lots of things that will help certain types of scars, and it's all about obtaining the correct ingredients in the right strengths, and then others can only really be dealt with with professional procedures such as laser resurfacing etc, say if the scars are pitted. To start with he could try a gentle AHA to improve skin texture but really to advise your need pictures and to see the skin or a bit more info.

Personally I think it's far better to initially spend to see a dermatologist if possible, especially if medication is involved for his acne. A lot of the high street products and at home light machines just will not do what they say they'll do as the active ingredients are not strong enough.

If you're familiar with reddit, their skincare addiction forum would be potentially a useful resource re:products and skin routines.

Fantastic that you are helping him with this OP, acne and scarring can have so much effect on self esteem.
