Help! Hair looks like straw. Need to sort it!

My hair looks and feels like straw. It's fine, collar bone length. All one length. Highlighted to within inch of its life. And I hate it. I always use supermarket shampoo as I can never bear the thought of spending loads. But now I think my time is up and I need to fork out money to sort it. I'm 52 and I look like a scarecrow.
What products - shampoo and conditioner do you recommend pls that will bring my hair back to life and make it look like actual hair again???!!! Thanks.

i would switch to using:

this shampoo, wash out then smooth this into your hair. leave for ten minutes, wash out then use this conditioner.

all the products i have linked last a while, so while they are expensive they have worked for me and have been worth the money.

all the best x

Olaplex 3 - you can get it cheaper on eBay - it's saved my hair!

I use the purple pureology shampoos - they're sulphate free and make my hair so soft.

I also use a serum/ leave in conditioner after I've washed it on the ends

Highlighted and feels like straw - that sounds like bleach damage and protein loss to me.

If you're ok with spending money on your hair, I would try ApHogee Two Step, Redken Extreme Anti-Snap Treatment or Olaplex.

If you have a smaller budget, I would try HASK protein shampoo and conditioner (or anything labelled with protein in it) followed by a coconut oil treatment.

This is brilliant advice! Thanks all. And keep it coming! I'm buying tomorrow and will report back. X

If you can afford too and trust your hairdresser, can I also recommend a keratin blow dry? Also called Brazilian bow dry in some salons. It lasts for several months - my hair used to get so frizzy after washing that I'd have to blow dry and straighten it to death, which really damaged my hair. Now all I do is blow dry and my hair is silky smooth and soft. Even when I leave it to dry naturally the frizz is gone and it dries wavy, which is a definite improvement on the frizz.

I'd get Aveda Blue Malva shampoo and conditioner. Then Moroccan oil to put on it when dry. Also use a heat protector cream when drying - Kerastase have a good one.

If you're spending money on highlights then it's worth spending more than supermarket shampoo. If you use decent products your hair will look shiny and effortless.

Get an Olaplex Number One and two from hairdresser (unless you can buy it yourself. I’ve never had any luck as only available to salons). Then buy some GENUINE Olapex 3 to maintain at home. Beware fakes on Amazon/Ebay etc.

It has transformed my over processed hair and was worth every penny.

RuggyPeg · 17/03/2019 16:56

Olaplex - not from Amazon or eBay!
Pureology.
Kerastase.
L'Oréal Pro series lipid repair mask.

All the above are in the process of reviving my bleach knackered snapping hair! You've got to throw money at this I'm afraid but it does work and is worth it.

snowone · 17/03/2019 16:59

I would suggest having a good old chop too to remove the most damaged ends!

itsbritneybiatches · 17/03/2019 17:03

Olaplex is the only thing that has worked on my hair and it was really really bleach damaged a couple of years ago

Nelsondog · 17/03/2019 17:35

Start by using a clarifying shampoo such as TRESemmé Deep Cleansing Shampoo to remove all possible build up and to reset the hair.

Conditioner:

Wella SP Luxe Oil Keratin Restore Mask

Leave-in Conditioner:

Sebastian Potion 9

Using these products will provide highly satisfactory results.
