Can anyone talk me through Teeth whitening options?

My teeth aren’t terrible but not an even colour due to years of using various teeth whitening toothpastes etc. 18 months ago went to my dentist to get them whitened. As I get sensitive teeth they recommended a tray with the filler stuff to do at home. They were ok, took a while to change but they went a couple of shades lighter but they did end up sensitive and had to stop. I still have the stuff so will start again tonight but I wondered if there’s a simpler way? Can it be permanent, is there any other option for sensitive teeth? I know a lot of people have veneers which I don’t want or is it just not sustainable to have them white forever?

I think there’s a laser option???

There isn’t anything permanent except veneers, all the whitening treatments will wear off after a couple of years.

The laser whitening is quick but harder on the teeth and you can’t do it gradually to assess sensitivity

Using sensodyne helps, also you should always use the gel before brushing your teeth, not after. I used the strips and used them once per day rather than twice, whitening took longer but avoided any sensitivity.

I’ve done laser whitening and I disagree that you cannot do it gradually. Gradually is exactly how it’s being done.

Is laser when you’re sat in the chair and the thing is kept in your mouth a while? I had an option of in tray at home or having it done (twice the cost) at the dentist and was instant... dentist said trays due to them being sensitive...

Yes, but the laser I do in the chair has up to three phases at one treatment. You can stop at one, two or three.

Hiya

If you want fast whitening results then Philips ZOOM! NiteWhite or DayWhite are good quality options.

However, if you don’t mind doing it slowly you could try rinsing with Hydrogen Peroxide.

For best results you will need:

Colgate Total Whitening Toothpaste
Sensodyne Daily Care Soft Toothbrush
Oral-B Pro-Expert Premium Floss
Hydrogen Peroxide 3%
Measuring Cap
Teaspoon

PROOF

Method:

  1. Brush your teeth with Colgate Total Whitening for 4 minutes.
  1. Floss your teeth thoroughly.
  1. Fill the cap up to (10 ml) measuring line with peroxide and add half a teaspoon of cold water.

(I purchased a bottle of Corsodyl mouthwash and I use the lid from that to measure the correct amount).

  1. Swish it around and gargle. The minimum amount of time you leave it in is 90 seconds. I leave it in for 5 minutes, sometimes a bit longer. If I’m in the shower for example I leave it in for the duration of the shower.

You’ll know it’s working because it will go very foamy and frothy.

When you’re done, spit it out and rinse your mouth out with water to remove any remaining residue.

My Dental hygienist recommended this method to me. Before doing this I had gingivitis periodically which I wouldn’t treat with Corsodyl which incidentally stains the teeth and I would also suffer from occasional bad breath despite brushing and flossing twice a day.

Since doing this method about a year and a half ago, both of those problems have completely gone, my teeth have gradually got whiter and my breath doesn’t smell like poo anymore.

Any questions feel free to ask.

Doesn’t brushing for 4 minutes wreck the gums though??

Nelson dog

How many times a day/week do you gargle with the peroxide??
I suffer with gingivitis too and like you, brushing and flossing isn't getting rid if it even though my dentist insists it's to do with oral hygiene.. (But then goes on to say I have good oral hygiene Confused) ive had this on and off since i was 16 and im so parranoid about having bad breath all the time. I'd love to get rid of it.

No, not with the correct brushing technique andusing ansift toothbrush.

My gums are healthy.

If 4 minutes seems like too long, reduce it to 2 minutes.

Newadventure

I do it everyday at night.
