Im 5ft2 and a dumpy size 10 to 12 and i would love a comfy easy care capsule wardrobe. Any ideas? Work is smart casual.

Most people hate ironing but smart casual or not, you still need to iron your clothes to look presentable at work.

I know. I guess I was looking for easier pieces, e.g.. I once had a gorgeous heavy silk blouse that barely creased and only needed a light touch with the iron. In winter I wear merino or cashmere jumpers that don't crinkle up much. That kind of thing. But thanks for your input. :-)

Johanna. What kind of things do you wear?

I haven't ironed for over 10 years
I do have a little hand steamer for blouses and shirts. It's like a kettle
Takes a couple of minutes to make a shirt look presentable and only cost £19

I have not ironed in years.

Choose your fabrics carefully and learn the art of drying and storing them so they don't crease.

greenelephantscarf · 16/03/2019 08:41

jersey type fabric tops or dresses and trousers/smart jeans here.
smart accessories, llke scarfs.

most importantly, take care how you dry clothes, smoth them out before hanging to dry, ideally on hangers.

origamiunicorn · 16/03/2019 08:43

I hardly ever iron. Most of my clothes are the sort of material where they almost come out dry from the washing machine and you just hang them and you're done. Even the shirts I buy these day don't crease, the only things I iron are a few pure cotton things that crease to buggery.

DrWhy · 16/03/2019 08:47

I don’t iron much. I have a number of M&S shift dresses that if you hang them on a hanger to dry only need an iron every 4 or 5 wears. Also a viscose wrap dress that’s similar. I don’t iron casual clothes at all. DH wears walking trousers and polo shirts, frankly they do look scruffy unironed but I figure he’s an adult so that’s not my problem or my job! Grin

Crockof · 16/03/2019 08:47

The secret is to get them out of the washing machine as soon as it's finished, I do honestly mean immediately. Also I find you have to wash at 40 otherwise the creases seem to not drop out. I then hang everything. By clothes that have a polyester mix, pure cotton always needs an iron, you can feel if the material will need ironing. Also look in the shop, if it looks a little creased in the shop stay away!

Jeans skirts jumpers shirts trousers ,, I do tumble or take straight out the washing machine and hang to dry

CountFosco · 16/03/2019 09:56

I don't iron much. Definite not in the winter when I wear jumpers every day. In the summer some woven cotton clothes looks better with an iron but linen is supposed to be crumpled so I think it's best to just embrace it. A bit of cotton or viscose or silk in the mix helps the worst of the creases.

millythepink · 16/03/2019 10:16

I work in a customer facing role in an upmarket establishment so need to look well groomed but I rarely iron.

I wear jersey, draped tunic dresses from Jaeger, White Company, Toast with opaque Wolford tights and heeled ankle boots. All my dresses can be tumble dryer, and if you tumble them just two at a time, remove them when only just dry and then hang immediately, they look pristine.

Cashmere jumpers are great if you don’t want to iron!
