For me it's tidy brows and a regular haircut and colour 😊

Drink more water here

I fell and cut my face in January and cheek scars are still red there Confused heard some oils are meant to be good for those?

Keep working on the casual wardrobe - I'm hourglass and commute by foot so need flats - looking nice on a day to day basis without being too dressy OR too frumpy is a challenge

LuxuryWoman2018 · 16/03/2019 17:47

Nails and lipstick for me. A bright lipstick, preferably red just makes me feel kind of bold.

ConfCall · 16/03/2019 17:50

Heartraker- I used Bio Oil on my c section scar. It made a difference.

Heartraker · 16/03/2019 18:31

Cheers conf I'll get some of that when I can find it cheap Smile

Also working on my hair it's quite thin (always has been - hereditary ) I've grown it long over the last few years but am also taking biotin to see if that helps

Filling up my water bottle in a minute - I find it easier swigging out a trendy bottle than from glasses.

jeaux90 · 16/03/2019 18:44

Bit of fake tan (Clarins drops) on my face makes me feel better. I don't look translucent Smile

Heartraker · 16/03/2019 18:46

6.50 on eBay for the bio oil best i could get

Acidrain · 16/03/2019 18:50

Underwear and clothes that fit your body shape well and flatter you.
Mosturise, mosturise, mosturise

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 16/03/2019 18:55

Definitely getting hair coloured - dp does it for me. In fact, he's doing it tomorrow!

Face oil

I always feel more like me, and therefore more confident, in my biker jacket

Mac Ruby Woo lipstick - I'm a recent convert, and love it

SpeckledyHen · 16/03/2019 19:23

Well fitted bra , short manicured nails , hair washed and blown every morning and lipstick are my essentials.

Sigh81 · 16/03/2019 21:46

Threaded eyebrows for me, plus ironing and looking after my (beautiful) clothes. I always wear at least one thing I love daily (and often a whole outfit) - makes me happy.

Tacobellend · 16/03/2019 22:12

Lash lift , hair tonged and carefully applied makeup not slapped on .

ZoSanDesu · 16/03/2019 22:32

@Heartraker I saw some bio oil in primark the other day! Didn't see the price but I also recommend

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 16/03/2019 22:46

I'm sure Aldi do a Bio Oil dupe

KittyWindbag · 16/03/2019 23:04

Does anyone else fee more stylish when they’ve got something with pockets? I feel cooler with my hands in my pockets, be it a good coat or the holy grail dress with pockets.

Oysterbabe · 17/03/2019 08:16

I'm blonde and you can't really see my eyebrows. I tint them light brown and it makes a huge difference. As soon as I start to feel shit about what I see in the mirror I know it's time to do them again, I look instantly more awake.

Sigh81 · 17/03/2019 08:21

Definitely with you on the pockets, Kitty. Whenever I have a speaking engagement, I have to wear pockets so I can put one hand in them and use the other to gesticulate - doesn't feel right otherwise Grin

Heartraker · 17/03/2019 12:35

50 cl of water drunk Smile

been a bit OTT with the caffeine and chocolate over last few months (damn you Xmas offers at Poundland) and my skin is showing it (along with the cut marks it’s all a bit much Shock)

Definitely agree with pockets. The thing is, I do know how to look good on a night out in dressy clothes - I want to feel relaxed and appropriate and nice and body confident when I’m just going about my daily business though (which doesn’t really involve many occasions where I’m wearing a fitted black dress and wedges....)

Richlyfruited · 17/03/2019 14:47

Yy to regular hair cut and colours.

I'm trying hard to get my 'going out' style sorted as I've been going out far more recently now the kids don't need a babysitter.

Anyone have tips on what to wear to gigs and clubs in your early 40s? Can't seem to successfully 'nail' the look at all!! ConfusedGrin

Heartraker · 18/03/2019 00:05

richly writing as someone who has also “got back into socialising” I think I’d just go for what you think is flattering and comfortable and appropriate and makes you feel great rather than trying to fit in with a particular look?

I started going to gigs and clubs and music events quite late in life and I think at times I felt I “had to” put on a logo t shirt and converse and jeans or something sparkly and short even though neither look is really “me”? I’m more of a plain classic cut kind of woman (jeans tucked in flat boots and a fitted top or a plain dress) and I find it flattering and comfortable. So it was no point trying to fit in with everyone else really.

There are also regional differences (I’m rambling) everyone up north and maybe out of London does “out out” looks like full on glam and Londoners go for black and casual and “smart but went to work in this” looks Grin Dunno if anyone is addicted to first dates but you have all the non Londoners suited and booted and groomed and the Londoners in their black trousers or casual sundress!

SwimmingInTheDeepBlueSea · 18/03/2019 08:02

A properly fitting bra makes a huge difference to the way we look and feel. Thanks to places like m&s so many women have the wrong sized bra on.

Posture - it's an obvious one but so many of us, with our modern desk jobs and particularly if we lack confidence start to hunch just a little bit it and makes us look so much worse for it.

ElfrideSwancourt · 18/03/2019 08:15

It's shoes for me - wearing a pair of sparkly shoes really cheers me up and makes me feel more together.

I am an Irregular Choice addict though (I know they're not popular on MN).

Richlyfruited · 18/03/2019 19:59

Heartraker good advice - I love a plain top and jeans!! After not thinking about my style for years I've become quite conscious of looking my age of late. I've also made a few bad clothes purchases trying to get it right and not feeling comfortable!

I'm definitely overthinking it Grin

PinkLipsDontLie · 19/03/2019 13:09

Quality, well fitting underwear.
Nice watch, with a matching bracelet (currently rose gold).
Professional manicure and pedicure, even if noone will see my toes.
Face oil each night. I wake up with bright, calm skin.
Lipstick or lip balm in a bright colour.
Comfortable shoes (heeled or flat).
Pockets (I recently realized how I love them too)
A chic and practical backpack (currently knomo) - need to carry a lot and can't look like I go to the gym all the time.
