Water hardness and how it affects your hair (+ link to you area's hardness)

Hard water has a high mineral content.

Levels:
0 to 60 mg/L Soft water
60 to 120 mg/L Moderately hard water
120 to 180 mg/L Hard water
180 mg/L or higher Very hard water

(Scroll down and enter your postcode in the box).

Hard water can affect the skin on your scalp causing dryness and itching. It may feel like it does when you haven't thoroughly rinsed out all of your shampoo.

Soft water is better at penetrating the hair shaft than hard water. This means that hair washed in soft water tends to be shinier and softer as the water helps the hair shaft to remold itself properly. In contrast, hard water can be drying to the hair, making it appear dull and potentially more brittle as the shafts cannot remold in the same way, leaving them with a rougher exterior.

Hard water also reduces voulme, removes colour from the hair quickly and can mean that products aren't washed away from the skin properly (leading to dryness and irritation).

The post code checker isn't working for me Hmm. Pretty sure the water is hard here judging by the amount of limescale we get.

I hate in when I go somewhere with soft water! My hair is shitty and fine and the London water makes it coarser and easier to manage. Soft water = limp, soft and shiny. No good for my pixie cut!

I do get through kettles and washing machines at a ridiculous rate though.

I think it's stopped working! Probably being overloaded with mnetters.

I live in Scotland and surprised to find mine is as high as 65.

Another one with fine hair that looks better after being washed in hard water here. Soft water just makes it lank and lifeless. It’s one little perk to make up for constantly cleaning bloody limescale off everything Angry

I live in London with very curly, frizz prone hair which costs a fortune in products to stop it from getting matted. I get beautiful glossy ringlets whenever I venture up north or to Wales or Cornwall. Given that it's not feasible for me to relocate right now, I spend fortunes on having a Brazilian blow dry every few months instead

Think of all the calcium you are getting in your diet though:)

In the SE, and had a water softener put in - best thing ever.
