47 and lost

I've had a big clear out of my wardrobe.

Nothing left really!

Had a free morning so popped out to House of Fraser, Debenhams, TK Maxx- nothing. So disappointing. That's all there is around here and I didn't have time to go further afield.

I feel like I've lost my way.

Where is good for a woman of 47 to get stylish, simple clothes.

You need to give your height, shape, budget etc and I'm sure someone can help

Cobblersandhogwash · 13/03/2019 11:41

6ft. Size 14. Budget - well I guess from £50 to £300 per item.

Are you an hourglass, pear .... straight up and down shape? What's your lifestyle? Do you need casual or corporate clothing? Who's style do you admire?

Elllllle · 13/03/2019 11:49

Who's? Sorry ... whose

ilovecherries · 13/03/2019 11:54

Trinny London (on YouTube) did a Zara makeover this week on a tall, size 14 woman. I thought some of her suggestions on the things to look out for when choosing clothes for that frame were really interesting, even if you don’t like the actual things she chose. Might be worth a look.

Watching with great interest as also 6ft and 42 and completely lost as to what to wear and my style - am a 🍐

Cobblersandhogwash · 13/03/2019 12:07

Straight up and down.

Need stylish knitwear. Simple, clean lines.

Work from home so no need for work wear.

I always think Cos does good clothes for a straight shape.

lightningstrikes · 13/03/2019 12:58

I like Cos, Olive and Banana Republic. Olive only do one size, but I find their tops quite generous. I like the shape of their jumpers particularly.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 13/03/2019 13:17

You've got a decent budget, have you had a look at Jospeh? I'm 45 and it makes up the backbone of my wardrobe these days.

House of Fraser and Debenhams are not going to throw up any delights, I was given a House of Fraser gift card and struggled to spend it.

millythepink · 13/03/2019 13:43

My best friend is 5 11" and a size 14/16. She wears mainly Cos, Kin by John Lewis and Toast.

thedevilinablackdress · 13/03/2019 14:09

As similar age etc. as the OP, I second the suggestions from Milly.

LesLavandes · 13/03/2019 14:33

Brora is great quality knitwear. V expensive but they have sales

MissBridgetJones · 13/03/2019 14:35

Jigsaw. Mint Velvet.

Jon65 · 13/03/2019 14:43

Second Kin by JL, Cos, Toast.

BaronessBomburst · 13/03/2019 14:51

I'm 47 and wear Phase Eight, Monsoon, and Pepperberry mixed with supermarket staples. (T-shirts and tops)
I have lots of jackets too, which with heels and a scarf smarten up jersey dresses. I work in an office though, so that's not so applicable.

Floisme · 13/03/2019 19:21

I'm considerably older, also shorter and a bit curvier. What can possibly go wrong? Grin But I also like simple, clean lines, interesting shapes and I'm always 6 foot in my dreams. Going up the price chain, I like:

The odd bit of H&M, admittedly not much these days but just enough to keep me fond of them.
Some Uniqlo - it can be a bit dreary but I keep going back cos the collaborations are often interesting.
Cos but don't start with the website like I did. I know they don't have many real shops but it's so much better when you see it for real. Best quality I know at that price range.
Arket? Never bought but had several recommendations - big sister to Cos and H&M.
Toast. Only some of it mind.
Me and Em although they're obsessed with high necklines at the moment. Mind you that might work for you?
Joseph but I have to seriously save up or buy second hand.
Margaret Howell - likewise.
I also like John Smedley for knitwear though I can't afford new.

Decormad38 · 13/03/2019 19:25

Boden catalogue, white company, Jigsaw.

Passthecake30 · 13/03/2019 20:18

I'm 6ft, size 10-12. Most of my wardrobe comes from long tall Sally and a bit of next tall as I'm fed up of traipsing round the shop and finding nothing fits.
What do you need to buy? Work clothes? Jeans?
