I had Shellac nails done 11 days ago - this is two of them today. What’s your experience of shellac - I thought it would last 2weeks? I have used the oil twice each day, so I’m a bit disappointed.
TBH have had shellac before without much luck - flaky nails - and my Beauty Therapist said I should give it another try.
What do you think?

I don't have shellac, mine is gellish which is similar and mine last 4 weeks ok it has a bit of growth showing. I have never oiled mine.
Sometimes that happens to me if it's a lighter colour. Don't ask why but I find deep pinks, red etc last longer.
My technichion files nails by hand not with the electric files which also helps my nails.

I get longer lasting results from cheaper gel polishes tbh. Some nail techs are a bit sniffy about this if they are a cnd salon but time & time again shellac has lifted before 2 weeks on me.

Luckingfovely · 12/03/2019 21:51

That's about the most time that gel nails ever last on me. I have SNS now which lasts 3-4 weeks every time.

Mine is still ok - except for regrowth after 3 weeks.

In my experience of Shellac, I found that it would lift and chip after about 10 days. I now have a "Russian" manicure - which is like a soft drill piece run over my nails to remove the rough bits and cuticles. I then have a soak off builder gel and Halo gel polish. It can last up to four weeks. Very impressed with the colours and textures.

Shellac has lasted 2 weeks for me 99% of the time. Sometimes I'll keep it for 3 weeks but need to be a little more careful so it doesn't start to lift off/flake. If I'm planning to go for 3 weeks (e.g. over Christmas), I usually have my nails done with inverted Vs to disguise the regrowth.

I use cuticle oil (and hand cream) every night before bed regardless of whether I have my nails done or not.

It's very dependent on nail quality and aftercare.
If you have thin, bendy or dry and flaky nails it won't last as long.
If you are hard on them they won't either. You must wear gloves when doing any washing up, cleaning or gardening.
The pic isn't great but is the nail under the chips slightly rough or completely smooth?

Waterfallgirl · 13/03/2019 20:02

Thanks for all the replies.
@itsbetterthan - thanks - the nails underneath are quite smooth. I have worn gloves for all the above as you suggested, but this also happened today. I noticed it was lifting up at the nail edge, and a bit later the bit fell off.
I’m guessing that shellac is just not suitable for me.
