what are your tips for best looking natural make up?

Have to wear an odd colour to a wedding and consensus seems to be natural look but am not sure where to start...

Very good base. Natural is hard to pull off if your skin isn't looking great.
Blusher (non lurid) on the apples of your cheek, healthy been-for-a-stroll rather than under th cheekbones, sculpted look.
Groomed, tidy eyebrows with powder/pencil, makes a huge difference when your going 'natural'.
Definitely curl lashes. IMO you should still wear black mascara for the natural look, but make sure its a decent non clumpy one.
Use eyeliner to help your eyes stand out but make the line as thin as possible and right on the lashes.
Would normally say no eyeshadow for natural but you still want ti look glam, so i'd say a pale gold/beige cream or liquid-to-powder that has shimmer.
Lips, if you can get away with it, dont wear lippy, use a very natural lipliner with a clear but slightly shimmery gloss.

clarins beauty flash

Mac counter for lightweight foundation and general tech advice

Benetint cheek stain, very easy to get right

cheap mascara

bobs yer proverbial

Also, highlighter and a decent bronzer can work wonders as they both help to give a healthy look which is a big part of the 'natural' look.

But they can both look really nasty if too heavily applied or in the wrong places, so if you intend to use them but dont usually then definitely practice beforehand.

benefits:
Dr Feelgood, which I presume is similar to Clarins Beauty Flash,
Some Kind of Gorgeous light cover/powder/creme all in one thing
Dandelion or suitable shade powder

and I agree about cheap mascara and maybe a neutral shade but slightly shimmery of poweder eyeshadow, somethin like Rimmel

EnidJane · 09/07/2007 10:08

laura mercier

codJane · 09/07/2007 10:08

what they all said

MyEye · 09/07/2007 10:10

(Suzy, I've never worked out Dr Feelgood, I've got some but have abandoned it, too drying and makes me look flaky, how do you use it?)

suzywong · 09/07/2007 10:17

Hello MyEye, you just smear it on with that pad thing, sparingly. It can make one a tad flakey, I agree. And tbph, I am not 100% convinced it actually does anything, it could be a case of Emperor's new clothers, but it does make me Feelgood.

loads of fruit, veg & water leading up to the event - the better your skin is, the less makeup you'll need, and you can't get more naural than that.

Light-reflecting moisturiser. No foundation. It only looks 'natural' in fashion photos, not in real life.
A bit of bronzer across the cheekbones.
Brown eyeliner
Masacara
sheer lip gloss.

a big smile!

JeremyVile · 09/07/2007 12:08

Stargazing, i will take it as read that you are either yet to reach your 20s or you have been far far far too blessed in the skin department

I have yet to meet anyone over 19 who truly looks better without foundation, even if they are convinced thay do.

The exceptions seem to be those who pick the completely wrong shade/texture of foundation and/or apply it rubbishly (ITS A WORD!) and in those instances, even i would agree that they would look infinitely better without it

DrNortherner · 09/07/2007 12:11

No foundation? .

Only 12 year girls look better with no fopundation. If you find a good one it smooths away any imperfections and blemishes.

I love EStee Lauder Individualist.

Stargazing · 09/07/2007 12:25

I am nearly 35 and have never worn foundation, not even on my wedding day.
Maybe I have been going around looking a complete dog's dinner this whole time??

EnidJane · 09/07/2007 12:26

I dont wear foundation (am 40)

dont have particularly amazing skin but I like the look of it with tinted moisturiser and concealer instead of foundation

EnidJane · 09/07/2007 12:27

I think foundation looks old-fashioned

TutterJane · 09/07/2007 12:29

cream blush rather than powder

avoid anything with sparkly bits in the daytime

browns rather than black unless you have very dark colouring

if you use brow pencil, use short 'backwards' strokes rather than following the brow with one line, iyswim

TutterJane · 09/07/2007 12:33

(browns rather than black - i men eye liner and mascara)

DrNortherner · 09/07/2007 15:45

I agree foundation and powder looks a bit caked, but the new age foundations are fab they realy are. They meke you look all dewy and youthfull. If it drys your skin or looks too much you have the wrong foundation. I tehn use touche eclat and cheek glace and bronzer. I don't look old fashioned!

I revert to tinted mousturiser when on hols/when have a tan.

noddyholder · 09/07/2007 15:51

fake tan better than foundation if your skin is good.

SeaSalty · 09/07/2007 15:54

Estee Lauder's 'DayWear Plus' gives you a really soft natural look and has the added bonus of an SPF. Get complimented on my skin when using this

For great natural make-up you can't go far wrong using anything from the Bobbi Brown range. Their consultants are really good too. Well worth booking yourself in for a free Make-up/skin care session

I agree with Enid and Doc that the foundation/and powder combination is very dating
