Anyone had encapsulation?

From a breast augmentation?

I've got this I think, in one boob. This is my concern (which isn't so much the encapsulation or having it treated but more cost-/terms and conditions-related).

When I went initially for the consultation I was told "Any encapsulation occurs, we put it right at no cost to you". There was no qualification of this eg that the offers stands for up to 1 year / 5 years/ 10 years from now but after that it would be the cost of a full breast augmentation surgery". No details like that given to me and I don't recall signing any forms that said "yes I understand these terms" (because there were no terms! And there were no such forms).

I also was given NO information about a maximum length of time they should be left in after which they should be removed or replaced. No information on whether they should be replaced even if there were absolutely no symptoms of any kind - no 'end of life' given regarding the implants at all...

So in order to get looked at by the original surgeon it'll be £100 for a 30 minute appointment - ok, fair enough, to find out if it is actually encapsulation or not, that may well be a sensible starting point and a fair and reasonable thing for me to pay for.

But I'm nervous about doing that when I don't know what the scoop is with what's to pay if he does feel it's encapsulated and required surgery on that one breast or both implants redoing - I've no idea. I've got the feeling they're going to go along the lines of 'oh well, ha ha ha, we won't do it for free when they're 8 years old now!!". My point (or two points!) will be, but you never TOLD me that - ever; I've been completely symptom-free from the POV of these implants for all these years only with some v v mild symptoms in the last 6 months, accelerating a bit over the last few months to where it's noticeable that there is some kind of problem in one breast.

Anyone who has experienced any of the above I would appreciate your sage advice and experiences. Many thanks.

One of My friends had her left implant encapsulated.several years ago
She had to have complete new implants put it and old ones taken out she had to pay for the cost of a complete new boob job this was with a surgeon / clinic in Manchester but I can’t remember who she said it was
Hers were only a in few years maybe 4 years when this happened
I’ve had mine in for 15 years possibly longer and not had any problems with them at all
I would prepare for the worse to be honest especially if you went with
a company that bang out boobs every day as opposed to a surgeon you went to independently .
Cosmetic surgery clinics tend to promise you the earth until your out the door and have paid

I didn't go to one that I would feel was the type you're referring to Sos (I know what you mean). It was £4,500 when I had it done, top quality implants etc.

I genuinely thought that mine were going to keep going strong as well Sad - it's just been v recently that there's been a noticeable issue.

It was £4,500 when I had it done back then, it's £4,850 to £6,650 there now... I just don't have that kind of money so am a bit worried about it - from the cost point of view (I've got no concerns about the surgery other than the usual ones, known risks etc).

Thanks very much for replying.

I did about 5 year ago on one side. But my implants were 12 years old by then. In all honestly one breast had felt funny for about 4 years, before I did anything. It didn't move like the other one but it wasn't a full encapsulation, it turned out it was the rear of the implant and it has adhered it's self at the back.

I didn't consider going back to the the company that did my surgery in London. I remember being told that silicon implants needed replacing very 10 years. I know they said they would fix issues in the first few months.

I decided to get my implants removed and not replaced. I found someone who would do it, and paid to have a private consultation. I then had an ultrasound, which according to them there was no issues with my implants ( as it turned out they couldn't see the part with the issue) But I just wanted them out. I felt that it would always be something I would have to replace and it worried me.

My surgeon did suggest I had smaller implants put in instead of removal but I decided to It was the best thing I have ever done. They look fine, did take a while to recover maybe 2 months on the skin front.

I had my implants age ,20 and they were massive and I was very slim into fitness. My were over the muscle. I'm a mum now and I'm healthy.

I think I paid about £3500 for removal.

I'd recommend the real self website if you are interested in removal.

Good luck
