Capsule wardrobe for Lisbon city break

missblondie · 09/03/2019 19:51

Could anyone suggest a capsule wardrobe for a city break to Lisbon in April? Temp will be around 20 deg. Size 12/14 blonde, hourglass, "Spring colours" are good ie camel/navy/coral/pink. Will be sightseeing and casual meals out. Footwear is sorted - white superga and gold havianas.
TIA

Anything goes ! It's absolutely beautiful. We are just back. Style wise like any capital. There are great views from a department store restaurant overlooking the city centre. Will find the name...

Flat and comfy shoes! Lots of steep inclines...

TapasForTwo · 09/03/2019 23:42

Agree with Sinead.
Comfortable shoes for walking is a must. Forget flipflops. It won't be hot enough.

Elllllle · 10/03/2019 05:21

I agree, Havianas for poolside and beauty appointments only imo! They are so sloppy and bad for feet if you're walking a lot, especially on inclines

Flip flops are definitely out. Lisbon streets can be tiled and uneven ( from what I can remember). Layers are your friend as it will be chilly late evening. Think spring in any western city.

Decormad38 · 10/03/2019 06:04

Sorry I chuckled at this. You will spend hours walking up and down hills and steps just take comfy shoes and clothes. No one is going to be interested in what you are wearing.

SlinkyDinkyDoo · 10/03/2019 06:06

A pair of jeans.
A pair of trousers ( whatever style is 'you' wide leg/cullotte/ankle crazer)
Soft blazer
Raincoat or trenchcoat
2 x vest top
2 x t shirts
2 light blouses/tops (loose, silk or similar)
I dress
I jumper/cardigan
Supergra
Flat sandal for evenings out
Underwear
Pjs or whatever you wear in bed
Tote
Small evening bag

This is for a 5 day stay. You could take less if you don't mind wearing tops more than once and loose either the jumper or the blazer depending on how confident you are about the weather.

Elesticated waists - The pastries are delicious :)

Second comfiest footware - cobbles hills and lots of steps .

Lisbon is a great place - have a good time .

SlinkyDinkyDoo · 10/03/2019 06:11

Lose not loose!

Others may not be interested in what anyone else is wearing but it's fine to take an interest in it yourself OP.

Sounds like to me you only want to take carry on and don't want to end up with 'just clothes' that are unsuitable (ie flip flops according to others)

StarlightLady · 10/03/2019 06:29

There are some nice shops near the castle selling non chain store clothes. Dresses can be very good value. So allow some space to bring things back.

It’s a bery relaxed place to be.

And, as with any city, you don’t have to be paranoid, just careful. So, I suggest you go for a bag with a crossover strap.

Bin85 · 10/03/2019 15:23

Be careful on the cobbles, my DH fell flat on his face!
I used Sketchers for sightseeing including strap hanging on very crowded tram !

missblondie · 10/03/2019 23:12

Thanks so much to those who posted helpful comments. Looking forward to Lisbon and as a pp said maybe no-one is looking but it's still ok to care about feeling ok about what I'm wearing x

Hi Op, i'm going to Venice and am taking 4 days of clothes. The key is to pick a colour scheme and everything is within that - I'm taking turquoise/lime/yellow/black/white, which is a throwback from a Hobbs 'raid' I did a while back. All of my clothes mix & match, it's a tried & trusted combination.

Re: shoes, I second good boots (Aquatalia for the win) or wedges with a grip, if you don't wear flats.

OlafLovesAnna · 13/03/2019 21:55

It may well be a bit warmer than 20 - it was about 25 on the Lisbon coast this weekend. The cobbles are indeed very slippy so makes sure your shoes have decent tread on them!

The LX Factory is lovely for a wander and a coffee and if you go to Belem then a top tip is not to queue at the Pasteis de Belen cafe, the line is just for takeaway orders, if you go inside it's huge and the staff will seat you inside or in a little courtyard and you can have your coffee/pastry in comfort and they'll also bring you wrapped pasteis to take away if you need more!

Despite it being 18ish degrees today the locals are still wrapped up in coats and boots, I have somewhat acclimatised so was in a cashmere jumper, jeans and trainers and I always have a light scarf in my bag in case the wind gets up.
