House of Colour - ticks and stars and codes confusion

Hi

I would be very grateful if any one could remind me what the tick and star placement mean on the House of Colour colour chart (two positioned above the colour number and two below), and also what the codes I have written might mean...

I had colour analysis approx 7 years ago (consultant no longer active) and I am a winter (I forget now which of the types). I've only got the colour wallet left (I decluttered the book a few years ago and stupidly didn't write down a key as to what the codes next to each colour meant first).

I vaguely remember that one relates to all over colour, top colour, bottom half colour and accessories but no idea which is which or how accurate that memory is. I believe the two star colours are the best, followed by one star and then the ticks...

No idea what the codes P, J/BW, SD mean next to some of the ticks.

I've recently lost quite a lot of weight and now have a renewed interested in clothes, which is why this has been gathering dust rather than being used much over the last few years.

As for what type of winter you are, wete you next to the autums or closer to the springs?

Also, I think theyve added more now (sprinter winter).

This is from Kettlewell’s site.

Oh thank you so much ForOldLandsEye Grin Flowers

That's brilliant - thank you!

Burnished rings a bell so I am thinking I might be Burnished/deep/dark winter!

Lucky you OP. The best type to be! Grin

Thank you ForOldLandsEye - I was convinced I was an autumn before I went and was slightly disappointed when I found out I wasn't. I've got used to it now - being able to wear black is a bonus (not that it would've stopped me if it wasn't one of my colours!).

I'm wearing a new top today, in what I now realise is a 'wow' colour and I can really tell the difference (7+yrs later and I am finally getting it).

Just to clarify, the ratings from the top down are:

100% (wow colour - full length dress etc)
75% ( knee length dress/suit)
50% (top or bottom half)
25% (accessories - shoes, belt, bag, scarf)

My double stars at the top are (wow colours): Indigo, Royal Purple; Lobelia; Mole; Raspberry; Damson; Burgundy; Dark emerald (today's top) and pine green.

Think I might have to book into the style analysis soon.

Thank you for all your help!

Yes, those ratings in order are correct.

You’re so lucky to be a winter. Loads of choice in terms of clothes, shoes and accessories. I’m a blue eyed blonde spring so there’s literally nothing that suits me apart from light grey and light navy

I found the style day by far the best and most interesting. I’m a sharp/straight & natural classic though so again there’s nothing for me in the current sea of autumn colours and romantic floral shapes.

Doomed. Grin

Your star colours are similar to mine: deep/ burnished winter. If you can’t walk past pine green or burgundy it’s a clue! I also thought I was autumn but there’s a bit of overlap with BW.

Hobbz · 09/03/2019 09:19

Blonde hair and blue eyes doesn't sound doomed ForOldLandsEye! It must be frustrating though when the season's fashions haven't got much in your colour palette and style type.

I was looking at Burgundy/Pine Green in a different light last night NotMeNoNo during some online browsing. I was looking at a lot of things differently really! I quite fancy a burgundy suit now for work...

I'm still losing weight (size 18/20 down to a 14 but I know a 10-12 is best for me) so trying to restrain myself on how much I buy until I am at goal, although I feel amazing now by comparison. Same with the style day - I am saving that as a special treat for when I'm closer to goal. So looking forward to that! I suspect I will be more straight/classic than romantic floral (no idea what the other types are though).

Sorry to gatecrash your post Hobbz. Is House of Colours worth it? I'd love to do it, but just can't justify the £150 cost in my head!

How has it helped you? How did you find a good consultant? How much is the extra product pushed?

Hobbz · 09/03/2019 14:20

Hi AnythingConsidered - I'm probably not the best person to answer given that I had mine done so long ago but...

It has helped me in thinking about colour in a different way - I do think it really makes a difference to how you look and feel if the colours you're are wearing suit you (rather than them simply being colours you like). Despite being fairly slack with it over the last 7 years (I appreciate it more now) it has helped me in choosing clothes and cut down on mistakes despite only vaguely remembering which colours to look out for.

I think the £150 is steep, even if I do think it was worth it overall. There is enough information on the internet to make a good stab at it with the help of a friend and an hour in a large clothes shop I suspect as a first step. My memory of it was that it seems unnecessarily drawn out (I am fairly impatient though) - possibly to justify the cost by making the time longer...I got a 'free' make up lesson with my colours. I remember really, really wanting to just go during this - that was where I felt obliged to buy something and it was tedious with four other people in the group. I had, for me, been there far too long by this point. I think I bought a couple of make-up items.

My consultant was really nice and looked amazing (she first came and talked to a WI lite group I was in at the time - she looked particularly lovely at that!). It was just the time commitment that annoyed me in the end - there for hours and I felt it could have all been done in 20-30 mins (without the make up lesson - which I didn't really want at that point). I don't have a young child at home now so maybe if I did it again I wouldn't resent the time so much and be more relaxed!

I now spend more on clothes than I used to when I had my colours done (just have more disposable income with age) so getting it right has become more important to me. I have considered getting them done again (just to make sure!) before I start spending money on what will be an almost completely new wardrobe in my smaller size - and may still do despite my grumpiness about the time. Just noticed that they do an advanced colour so maybe that will be the one for me (£115).

I would have to choose a consultant this time by their proximity and their photograph.
