What can I use on DD9's face for KP?

DD9 has always had a bit of KP on her arms, and in the last year a few little bumps on her face - now last few months her cheeks look like this?

Anyone dealt with this successfully? I don't want to put anything too harsh on her.

I was wondering about those vibratey face washer devices.

It seems like it's ramping up and worried in a few years this will become a face full of spots if I don't get on top. I have tried gently exfoliation with a warm washcloth for a month or so and some Eucerin cream for a few weeks but neither made much difference.

Grateful for any suggestions. Hope you can see the pic..

What is KP? Is it that gluten rash?

Ohyesiam · 06/03/2019 20:18

My daughter got rid of her KP with exfoliating and moisturiser. That was her arms though.

BillywigSting · 06/03/2019 20:19

I would take her to gp and get her referred to a dermatologist personally rather than mucking about with over the counter lotions and potions, especially as she is so young

snoozetastic · 06/03/2019 21:25

I agree with PP ask a doctor because so young

I was prescribed salicylic acid in emollient

The emollient was greasy though so I didn't like it much

snoozetastic · 06/03/2019 21:26

Also physical exfoliating (eg scrubbing, brushing) makes it worse in my experience

Has she been tested for coeliacs? Mine literally vanished overnight once I'd been diagnosed and changed my diet!

travailtotravel · 06/03/2019 22:57

Vitamins and minerals make a huge difference here too ...

Howzaboutye · 06/03/2019 23:12

I think it's caused by a zinc deficiency maybe?

Maybe she needs a multivitamin if her reserves are getting low, maybe from her cycle starting?

raaaasss · 07/03/2019 10:31

thanks all, I think we are off to a dermatologist then. She has been on a supplement over winter with vits A, D and zinc in.

Maybe we'll try a week of wheat-free in Easter hols. Surely if she were coeliac she'd have other symptoms?

Ds has it on his face and arms, I imagine it’s hormonal as sometimes it just disappears. We use the boots own skin clarifying toner with Salic acid. It’s quite good at stopping them wanting to pick it or scratch

maxinespalour · 07/03/2019 23:05

Coeliacs can have no symptoms for many years or just one or two. Mine was my skin and anaemia.
Maybe worth mentioning to your gp?

Aaaahfuck · 07/03/2019 23:09

Are they not just keratin spots? I don't think you need to cut out gluten just yet

maxinespalour · 08/03/2019 07:16

You should never cut out gluten without a diagnosis, totally necessary.
In fact you need to be eating gluten prior to being tested, otherwise the test won't be accurate.
It's just my skin was exactly like that before I discovered I had coeliacs and it literally changed in a matter of days after my diet had to change.

oohyoudevilyou · 08/03/2019 08:22

Two of mine had KP and it was at it's worst this time of year. Once the weather warmed up and they were out in the sunshine it cleared up no end.

QueenMabby · 08/03/2019 08:40

My daughter had bad KP on her arms and legs and then it spread all over her torso. I used Ameliorate on it (I got mine from M&S) and it completely cleared it up in a couple of weeks. Not sure if you can use it on the face though. It’s a great cream and regularly recommended for KP. My daughter’s has come back a little but much less severe. Also try removing bubble bath, shower gels/body washes etc and just use plain soap and clean water.
HTH.

whysorude · 09/03/2019 16:19

Going fragrance free on all soap, shampoo and shower gel has helped my LO's KP massively, also with washing powder/liquid. And replacing bubble bath with a handful of Epsom salts.
