Hydroquinone and tretinoin treatment for hyperpigmentation

I’m starting treatment for hyperpigmentation around my lips and cheeks. I also have it on my forehead and around my eyes, but it’s worse around my lips, as it can look like a 5 o clock shadow.

Has anyone been prescribed these creams as treatment? Everything online shows that people are ending up with glowing skin.

What brand is it? I have melasma and I've just been started on some retinol from a dermatologist, rather than my over-the-counter one. I've literally just put it on!
I was a bit worried about the hydroquinone being a bit hardcore. Have heard good things about tretinoin.

It’s Dermica, online prescription. The tretinoin is 0.0025% and hydroquinone 4%. I think I need something hardcore as the hyperpigmentation is really bad. I also have some acne on my cheeks so I think the tretinoin is to help with that.

How's it going? My face is really flaky and dry... Hmm

Persimmonn · 15/03/2019 08:06

Hello! Mines flaking slightly too and dry. I had a break out of spots the first few days that are calming down now and a stinging sensation, so I skipped 2 days. The really pigmented areas aren’t flaking as much.

I can’t really tell any difference yet, can you?

Not a sausage... (just flakes) I'm telling myself to be patient.

Hello Persimmonn... how is your face doing with the hydroquinone?

I've been using the retinol and my melasma looks bloody worse. Apparently this is common, and I'm to keep going, but add hydroquinone to my regimen. I'm reluctant, as it feels like chucking good money after bad... but if you tell me you now look 21 with the skin of a baby I might reconsider. Grin

Hi NeedSomeTimeInTheSunshiiine I too suffer with this. Have you not been using the hydroquinone with the retin-a? I have done this regime before and needed to mix a little of both on the back of my hand and then apply. The hydroquinone is what will help fade the marks.

Yes Silver I was told to have a go with the retinol and see how I got on. My face looks worse, and I don't know what to do about it. Their advice is to push on and add hydroquinone... but well, I've only got one face!
Has it worked for you?
