Face powder that will not make me look twice my age...

I have always had oily skin and in my 20s and even early 30s used to use foundation followed by loose powder.

I am now in my 40s and have got out of the “make up routine” but I have decided that I need to up my game as even a little bit of make up makes such a difference... I find that full on foundation is just too much for my skin now so use a bit of concealer but I would like to find a powder I can use to tone down any shininess, but that will not make me look like death. Any recommendations? (I can’t use mineral make up - it gives me spots!)

I love my Bobbi brown pressed powder. The SAs are trained to go for quite a yellow tone when they match you up. If you’re not convinced just play around and find your own match. It evens my skin out and makes me look a bit “ done” but not overdone.

Thanks - I will give it a go. I like the idea of pressed powder as it’s less of a faff...

I’m not sure if the Hourglass Ambient Lighting (pressed) powders will be mattifying enough (I am in my early 30s with dry skin) but they work well for me in setting my makeup and adding a bit of flattering luminosity.

I love the beauty pie translucent powder. It’s so good and really well priced.

Will check these out - thank you. I have an Hourglass liquid blusher that I love...

Benefit do a good powder called Hello Flawless that has a bit of coverage , I have combination skin and use it when I don't want a full foundation.

Otherwise if it's just to reduce shine I use a translucent pressed powder from Elf that is so fine it doesn't look chalky.

I use a lily lolo mineral foundation. It’s a powder that mixes with the natural oils on your skin to provide a foundation coverage. They do samples for a couple of quid. They do a translucent powder as well which gives a bit of a sheen.

I was going to say the Lily Lolo loose powder. Doesn’t leave that dowdy ‘powdered’ look but the sheen is very subtle - like a soft-focus effect

Thank you!

Smash box - the one with the 'grinder' it's fabulous 👍🏻

I don’t know if anyone has suggested this yet- but I find using a ‘setting spray’ after powder helps it look much more natural and glowy without making you oily Smile

IdaDown · 02/03/2019 20:39

Have you tried Laura Geller, Balance and Brighten? It’s a ‘powder’ foundation rather than setting powder but is buildable. There’s also another illuminating version.

I’ve got very (very) dry skin so have always avoided powders. Tried this and am converted. You can order from QVC with 30 day return/refund if you don’t like it.
