Trousers for tall slender boys. Quest for drawcords.

I wasn't quite sure where to post this, so do apologise if this is the wrong place.

Mainly I am in the search for trousers/jogging bottoms with an actual working drawcord, not just an imitation one. Pictures are misleading online as the fake drawcords are made to look exactly like real ones, so you have no way to know. I got caught out by TU, as they sneakily put in a cord about 2 inches into the waistband. They went to the trouble of using big eyelets and everything to give the impression of a working one, so saving pence on not using an extra bit of cord! Where we live online shopping is a must as it would be days spent travelling miles to each shop to try out the waists on trousers, so was hoping MN might be my saviour in my drawcord search and someone might point me in the direction of a shop that have what I'm looking for.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

do you mean a tie waist? if so, try here. they come in 3 different colours x

BiscuitDrama · 01/03/2019 17:58

All of ours are just the fake ones, they are largely H&M.

So sleep are those Peacocks ones a fully working drawcord, ie goes round the whole waist and tightens, rather than just being a tie at the front?

Raera · 01/03/2019 17:59

Try GAP for proper cords

sleepismysuperpower1 · 01/03/2019 17:59

the pair my ds have from there is completely tie waist, but i'm not sure if they have changed them Confused

How old is DS? Boden trousers all have adjustable waists, many with drawcord. But not much use if he's 14 Smile
My DS is also long of leg, and narrow of build... his trousers are all Boden, gap, and h&m (the Chino type have waist adjusters).
The Boden baggies are the most comfortable trousers ever he tells me.

How tall op? And how skinny? Ds1 is 6ft 6 and 30inch waist, he needs 30/36 or even 30/38 aaarhgh really tough. ASOS is quite good tho, has joggers, they are always too short for Ds1 but may fit Yr ds

StrawberryApple · 01/03/2019 19:03

Just brought some Next joggers which have a working drawcord.

Rubusfruticosus · 01/03/2019 19:10

Sports Direct for jogging bottoms. DS has some Slazenger ones that were 2 for £11. They are already slim on the waist and have a working drawcord too. He's in a size 11-12 for length and has a 25 inch waist.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 01/03/2019 19:11

Zara are good for skinny lads.

emeraldmoon · 01/03/2019 19:20

Next is good, I buy all my ds's joggers from next as he's slim so needs a real drawstring, they're skinny fit too so don't look ridiculously baggy

crumbnugget · 01/03/2019 19:23

Thank you all for your help and suggestions, much appreciated as was going mad today, peering at photos of kids trousers like Colombo for evidence of drawsting-ability. I will definitely check out your suggestion. The boys are 8 and 12, and are long and thin, both taller than average, with slim waists so definitely need a complete tie drawstring. I was thinking possibly Next , but then reviews and their returns policy for orders if you can't take back to store put me off if I wasn't certain they would be suitable. ( £2 per return?? whole lot or per item?)

Reading with interest as DS1 has the same issue. I end up opening the waistband a bit, threading elastic all through it, knotting it then sewing where required to hide it! Bit of a pain though.

imsorryiasked · 01/03/2019 19:26

Are adjustable waist trousers not suitable? (The ones with elastic and buttons inside the waistband)

imsorryiasked · 01/03/2019 19:30

lands end joggers usually have proper drawstring - the description will specify.

Rubusfruticosus · 01/03/2019 19:31

If the drawcord is on the inside (mentioned in the description) then it will be a functional one. I've found sportwear is smaller on the waist than fashion joggers.

crumbnugget · 01/03/2019 19:34

We have had this issue from birth, long children. Both were 51cm long, I got baby clothes from Mothercare ( which seemed to cater for wider shorter babies from experience) in preparation for their arrival and it was confronted with body suit wedgies before I could source longer ones. When they were younger drawstrings were easier to come by, but as they are now in older boy sizes they seem a rarity. Conventional trousers with belts no good either as to get the length of leg, the waist is massive, then drops between the belt loops, and they both end up looking like bad rappers with their underwear on show Grin

thanks for the suggestion for adjustable waists. We have some of those, but had to adapt them too as needed extra adjustment. Good tip Rubusfruticosus I didn't think of that, inside drawstrings would only be functional, will look into those.

H&M joggers - double benefit that they are generally slim fitting, but the drawstrings are real.

AalyaSecura · 01/03/2019 19:46

These are definitely real drawstring for example

Boden are best for my skinny boy. Never pay full price though, there's always a code floating around for 15-20% off plus free delivery and returns.

winterisstillcoming · 01/03/2019 19:52

For school trousers I buy a size down, skinny fit, extra long from m&s. Primark do skinny fit joggers with draw cords. I but the 2 holed cord toggles from eBay as well so no tying up needed and no constant hoiking up of trousers.

Agree Zara and gap for skinnier fits.

crumbnugget · 01/03/2019 19:59

AalyaSecura thanks for the link, was just looking on H&M, seems lots cater for he slim fit on there, good price too. I dont like to get the cheapest trousers as they wear out so quickly, bought some from Tesco once, had holes in within about a weeks worth of wear! (something else I haven't learnt from having two boys, they seem more abrasive than my friends girls Grin never keep still, more friction maybe) they wear out knees in no time, but buying too expensive ones and its eye watering at how much we would spend.

Some great and helpful suggestions, thanks all Smile Think the best bet is to try from a few of the suggested places and see what's best and make a bigger order afterwards.
