What is this on my face?!

I'm hoping someone can tell me what this is as I've had it for about a year now. Either side of my mouth, between my mouth and chin, I have red blotchy bits that just won't go away. I can't work out if it's just my face changing shape as I'm getting older, and the fat pads on my face are dropping a bit causing shadows, or whether it's something that I can fix.

Sadly, it looks worse/more obvious in real life than it does in the photo . . . but if anyone has had similar, and there's a magic cream to make it go away, please tell me!

(I know in the grand scheme of things this is not important. But I've decided to give myself a break from worrying about big scary things 😁)

Could be perioral dermatitis? Worth checking with your GP

Herja · 01/03/2019 12:25

I get that! I didn't know it was a 'thing', I just get lots of dry skin. Oddly the cheap aldi night cream gets rid of it, only for a while though; I then swap to a different moisturiser for a bit and put up with it. Go back to the aldi one a week or ao later and it goes again.

RedPandaFluff · 01/03/2019 12:37

Ooooo I might try the Aldi cream, I need new moisturiser anyway.

I googled perioral dermatitis and it could be a very mild version of that. I'm wondering if it's really worth a GP visit, given how trivial it is?

The day one doesn't do it, only the night one; in a dark blue tub. I sometimes put the night cream on just my chin and a normal day cream on the rest of my face in the day.

rebecca102 · 01/03/2019 12:47

Is it itchy?

RedPandaFluff · 01/03/2019 12:54

Thanks @Herja

Not itchy at all. Sometimes it's just shadowy, other times it's slightly raised.

I get that if I use something that irritates my skin.

Recently got it using Sainsburys moisturiser.

TheChineseChicken · 01/03/2019 17:12

Looks like PD - I had it. GPs aren't very good with dermatology problems so I went to a private dermatologist to get a course of topical antibiotics. Took bloody ages to go but did eventually. Whatever you do, don't put steroid cream on it!

Was amazing when it went. For ages I thought I just had a spotty chin but apparent not!

DrFoxtrot · 01/03/2019 18:39

It could also be acne rosacea but you need an examination in real life.

IHeartKingThistle · 01/03/2019 18:49

Oh wow this is a thing? I thought my acne was coming back!
