Boots No 7 new foundation- anyone used it?

JinglingHellsBells · 28/02/2019 13:45

anyone tried it?
The one in a tube £15.

I tried some on my hand today and asked for a sample but they didn't have any tester pots.

I really don't like sitting in Boots having my face done so declined her offer to try it out and TBH I know my own skin and don't need a 'consultation' I just wanted to try a little bit!

Anyone used it?

Does it last- it's quite creamy.

@TheHodge

I may be wrong here but I'm about 90% sure that if you buy a foundation direct from Charlotte Tilburys site they send two samples in the shade you bought and the one above/below so that you can try the samples before opening the bottle.

I'm really pale, Calico at No7, Alabaster in Clinique, NC15 in MAC, 1.5 in Urban Decay Naked, Birch in BareMinerals and Fair 2 is a perfect match for me in the Magic Foundation. It's my absolute favourite!

LoniceraJaponica · 03/03/2019 10:59

Even Calico is too orangey for DD.

TheHodgeoftheHedge · 03/03/2019 11:20

oooh @April that's amazing. I will look into that - thank you.

Also, as @Jingling said, what's with the heavily perfuming of foundations at the moment? I have already spent money on perfume I like, I don't need my foundation stinking up the place. A couple of ones, such as Lancôme, have given me cracking headaches!

JinglingHellsBells · 03/03/2019 13:18

I think Boots foundations are fine IF you can get the colour right.

I bought one ages ago in Calico and it made my face look pinky-grey.
There is a shade variation across the different types.
The new No 7 foundation comes in Porcelain which is paler than Calico. I couldn't get a sample as they had no pots for it :(

Revlon Colourstay isn't bad- I've got Buff and it's not the lightest shade. I find a lot of pale foundations are for rosy skin whereas mine is def not pink.

Today I have tried the Estée Lauder double wear nude - colour “Cool Bone” (really not sure about that name!!!
The colour match is really good and I liked the balancing out it did of my face without making me looking like i was covered in chalk.
BUT the makeup is simply sitting on top of my skin. It’s tacky and sticky and rubbing off on everything. It also has a really heavy perfume - I smell like my gran.
So the search continues.

TapasForTwo · 05/03/2019 13:57

On the back of this thread I bought some at the weekend. It is much heavier than the Intelligent colour, but I think I got the colour right. And it does look nice on. I wish they offered a lighter shade of the Intelligent Colour foundation as even the Light one is too orangey on me unless I have a tan.

CardiganB · 05/03/2019 14:00

I bought some last week but haven't used it yet - I'm fairly sure the saleswoman 'matched' me to at least one shade too dark. Is this is a thing now? I had a makeover at a Bobbi Brown counter recently, and although the MUA assured me the foundation was a perfect match, she had to cover my neck in bronzer to balance it up with my oomahloompahed face. I'm Irish and pale, and I am FINE with that, ffs.

TheHodgeoftheHedge · 05/03/2019 15:04

Hmmm that’s interesting. I did have one of the beauty consultants getting herself in a complete lather with colour matching because my face and neck are a different colour (apparently). I did point out that I am only wearing it on my face but she was incredibly stressed out about it ;)

BoeandBall · 05/03/2019 15:11

Which one is the new no 7 one?

TheHodgeoftheHedge · 05/03/2019 15:32

It's this one, the Hydraluminous Moisturising one.

Just to update this.
I've been using it for around a week and saving the last of my Dior Star for 'best' as it's now discontinued.

I have to say I'm impressed with the quality of the No 7. It glides on very nicely, almost like a moisturiser. You can apply a second layer and it doesn't look powdery or cakey.
It also lasts quite well for such a 'slippery' foundation.

I have two minuses-

1 The colour range. Calico is pretty good for me (only in this foundation) but it's very 'beige' and has a slightly pink-grey tone to it. Compared to Ivory 010 in Dior (which actually looks very yellow alongside, yet is also listed as neutral.) Yellow foundations do give your face 'light' according to Sali Hughes. I am not 'warm toned' but a lot of the paler foundations are very pink toned.

However, for an everyday foundation at the price (I got 250 points and another double points buying it) it's a bargain.

2 The tube. If you lie it on its side, when using it, the foundation oozes out. I like a tube for portability but this one is pretty runny and prob best in a bottle or a flat-bottomed tube that can stand up.

Thanks @JinglingHellsBells

JinglingHellsBells · 13/03/2019 08:10

@TheHodgeoftheHedge

Thanks for the feedback on the EL DW Nude; that sounds disappointing as it's on my 'get a sample' list. I think I'd be Porcelain or Ecru-perhaps. They are neutral 1 and 2.

Have you tried Bobbi Brown foundation? They are the only brand so far for me where some shades are too pale.

Having said that I've yet to find the perfect formula. I used Skin Foundation for a good while but it's watery and I needed to layers for coverage (bit of pigmentation.) I used Porcelain which was too pale really.

I've got the stick foundation that I use mainly for touch-ups when out. It's in Porcelain which again is very pale on me. It 'swipes' a good match, but all over looks too pale.
There is a warm porcelain which tested looks very yellow.

I like the stick so may experiment with the next shade up - Ivory- which may be slightly darker but not so yellow.

Not sure if this is any help for you?

@TheHodgeoftheHedge

It's a while now but wanted to say I was colour matched recently for the EL Nude Water and came out as Cool Bone with Porcelain as as lighter possibility.

Not yet sure about the texture- need to try it more.

I also got a sample of Clinique new one in the 2 palest shades- but it feels very thick (it's full cover.)
