Anyone got any recommendations for home hair dye? I’d like something like these pictures. My hair is naturally red but has got a lot darker as I’ve got older

I've tried both of these. The semi-permanent is more of a copper brown and the permanent on my light brown hair is a lot like your photos. YouTube search these dyes, there are lots where you can see the results.

If you are committed to staying red then I say go for henna.

I’m also a natural red head whose hair is getting darker and I’m losing my red a bit. I mix my own with body quality henna powder, red berry fruit tea and a small amount of lemon juice. It messy and a long process from start to finish (making the dye/ letting it sit for hours -sometimes overnight- until the dye releases/ application/ 4 hours on head/ and eternity to rinse out). However the results are great and the colour stays, maybe some gradual fading over a few months but in a natural way so still looks good - unlike the box dyes that wash out after a couple of weeks and leave a faded orangey shade.

You can also buy the lush henna which comes in a solid block that you melt with hot water. They have different mixes (with additional plants/herbs?) too so you have more of a shade option than standard henna. It’s still messy but no waiting around for dye release.

@origamiunicorn YouTube is a very good tip, thank you!

@ThanksForAllTheFish completely forgot about henna, thanks, will take a look. Do you think it’s possible to get the colour above with henna?

I think it depends on your starting shade. The ends of my hair that have previously been dyed go a much more vibrant red than the hair that’s only ever had henna. (It does blend together very nice though) if you’ve been dying your hair then it will go lighter than the shade above but as it grows out and you top up it will me more dark auburn than bright red. Also the more you apply henna the darker he hair gets “, which is why once you find the right shade you stop dying the ends and only touch up roots.
