What sort of budget do you need for a personal shopper?

...in John Lewis?

I've been wearing clothes I've had for years and some ebay bargains for ages but feel I need to shake up my wardrobe a bit and possibly consider moving outside my comfort zone. I really hate shopping and tend to give up very quickly, but I used to find bits and pieces in JL so a friend suggested trying the JL personal shopper. Unfortunately though, I don't have much of a budget - £200, maybe £250 at a push - although I'm not looking for outerwear, shoes or posh frocks - just some new casual stuff to wear that isn't well worn jeans and Breton tops and might cross over to smart-casual for work. Is that budget enough or will they look down their noses? Will they even ask? I can't see any guidance on spending on the website, just that there's no pressure to buy.

Your budget is important for them to know as they need to understand what items to suggest but it's a free service, no pressure to buy so in that respect budget doesn't matter

I recently spent £300 after a JL personal shopper session, 3 tops and a pair of jeans (the jeans were £££ but worth it) no pressure to buy though.

Your budget will help them tailor items in your price range, eg multiple casual items vs a statement coat for £250. Just be upfront.

Oh and tailor brands of course

I’ve done personal shopping in JL with that sort of a budget. They were great and bought out sale stuff as well.

I would have a browse round the racks when you go into book it. You won't get a lot of items for £200 in JL unless there's a sale on.

You could also try Debenhams if you need a lot of stuff

I don't think the personal shopper will care what your budget is. I think they are ok if you go in with £100 saying pick me a pair of jeans. Or I need a dress for X

I had a budget of £250 in John Lewis and that was absolutely fine. Their tips also meant that I could buy more after the session as finances allowed.

You just have to manage your expectations you might walk out with 3-5 items and that’s all. But they will be great things tht your love.

Brilliant - all sounds great. I'm not expecting a new wardrobe all at once for my budget, I'd rather buy a few good quality items and build from there, but getting pushed to try things I wouldn't have picked normally will (hopefully!) be a good start. Thanks everyone!
