Retinoids

I've been using the ordinary retinoid 2% emulsion every other night for over 6 months now with no irritation and feel it's time to step up to a stronger formula. I'm so confused by the range available. What's the difference between retinoid and retinol? What would be a good next step? It doesn't have to be the ordinary but a similar price range would be good. Thanks!

No advice but following with interest, I’m using the same product at the moment and looking to step it up too. I think retinoids are weaker than retinol so the ordinary 1% retinol is actually stronger than the 2% retinoid (I think?)

Can anyone help?

Retinol, retinoid and retinol-a all have retinoic acid as the active ingredient. However there are differences in how available the active is. Prescription products have higher concentrations of the active ingredient.

Are you happy with the results you’re getting from TO one you’re using? You could start using the stronger one, or a prescription one. Or you could continue to use the one you are using if it’s working for you. TO do respond to queries and provide advice on products so you could contact them directly too!

*Retin-a not retinol-a

Thank you! I'll contact The Ordinary for advice. I like what I am using but think I would like to try the next step in strength- I'm just confused about what product that is!

Think they should definitely be able to help you with that then! I asked them a query about using two products together and they gave me a detailed response.
