Emoilients or products from Lush for eczema?

I've always used emollients for my eczema and dry skin (like E45 and Oilatum) but have heard that Lush products like their Dream Cream and some soaps are more effective.

Does anyone have any views on this or experiences of using both?

They are very good at giving out samples if you can brave going in and asking. Celestial moisturiser is very gentle, but definitely get samples first. My DD has has good results using Fresh Farmacy soap on her face (she has teenage acne mixed with eczema and redness), as it's calamine based and very gentle. I'd be careful though as even though the products are quite natural it may be that the essential oils are still a trigger for you. Good luck.

I have eczema and the only emollient that has worked is Mustela emollient balm. Made with acids and sunflower oils. It’s a baby skin brand and is very gentle and soothing. I tried dream Cream but my skin felt hot.

I used to work there and as frugal says they should give you some samples. Dream cream for body is worthwhile trying out.
If it's for your face maybe try shangri-la too, it's very rich but healing.

try it.
with eczema it's always trial and error to find what suits the skin best.

Following with interest, my Ds suffers really badly with exzema mainly on his face, which very red & flaky most of the time.

I’d recommend ultrabland cleanser. It’s super gentle and essentially free of most irritants such as fragrance etc as it’s beeswax based. It’s essentially a soothing & hydrating balm so perfect for sensitised skin.

Other than that, I probably wouldn’t recommend many lush skincare products as they’re essentially designed to look/smell/feel nice rather than being effective skincare for more serious skin concerns.

Some people have recommended dream cream/ dream wash but their products are generally quite highly perfumed and may irritate skin.
L’Occitane almond shower oil is lovely.
Remember to slather on emollient after showering!

I don’t have eczema but I have really dry skin. Dream Cream is great but I also like the charity pot moisturiser. Skin drink is a good facial moisturiser as well.

WoahThereMama · 26/02/2019 01:22

Dream Cream was the only thing that worked on DD’s facial eczema. People rave about Child’s Farm moisturiser but it didn’t do anything for her. Different things work for different people but I love Dream Cream.

I don't have enough evidence or experience to say that some Lush products are better than E45 or Oilatum, but I will say that unlike many brands I can actually use the majority of their products without experiencing any pain or flare-ups. My eczema is chronic and covers my entire body, and Lush is the first reasonably affordable brand I've been able to use; I was honestly thrilled when I first tried one of their bath bombs and found it made my skin feel soft and nice without any stinging. Even if their products aren't better than E45 or Oilatum I think it's worth it just to feel like a normal person using normal products every now and then.

My advice would be to look on their website where it lists the ingredients for each product and choose a few things either to order or ask to test in person in an outlet. The only products of theirs I've had an issue with are the ones containing citrus, which leaves a lot of options worth trying to find out what suits your skin best. I've always found the in-store staff are great for recommendations and information as well Smile

Celestial is absolutely the best thing I’ve ever used for my facial eczema. It’s a facial moisturiser and extremely gentle. I used it as I would my normal moisturiser and within 2 days all of the eczema on my face was gone. I continued to use it and it didn’t come back.

Dream Cream tends to be recommended for body eczema but although lots of people have good results with it it didn’t do anything for me - didn’t make it worse and felt quite soothing but made no difference to the actual eczema. Not sure if they still sell Sympathy for the Skin but I had more success with that as a body lotion - it was more noisturising and cleared it up a bit.

Ultra Bland is a good cleanser/make up remover for easily irritated skin and Aqua Marina is a really good wash off cleaner for irritated skin to use in the mornings.

I disagree with the PP who said that lush products are just designed to smell and feel nice - while I’m not bothered about the bath bombs etc, the actual skincare is fantastic. Just because it’s mostly natural ingredients doesn’t mean that it isn’t really well researched and tested or won’t work well. My skin was never better than when I only used Lush products on it (can’t afford it now apart from the odd thing)

Jeackyll · 26/02/2019 08:27

Oh, and ask for samples - the staff will be happy to do that for you as long as they can see that you’re serious about trying to find something that works for your problem skin and not just after a freebie.

Don't call me melon. Am newbie here and dont know if this is appropriate and dont want to tread on any ties but
My sister has suffered exzema most all her life, even been hospitalized for it. The itching was the worst and she wears scratch mittens to bed even now.
Whilst waiting in yet another hospital yo see another consultant, we got talking to an old lady and harte is her (very sound) sdicr. Bicarbonate of soda. Use it diluted to bathe the skin, it really fors stop the itching. It is safe got all at any age and (as far as I jnow) has no side effects.come to think of it, my nan always kept a block in the kitchen for all manor of things (inc. Boiling green veg but we wont go there) kept it for stinging nettle stings too I believe. It can go in the bath too and although wont rid you of the exzema, does make it more bearable. My heart goes out to you. Dont know if I can promote another brand name here but my sister has just come out of a 3 week stay in Guys and St.Thomas' hospital for her exzema. They used Aveeno on dry patches of unbroken skin. She now gets this by the bucket load on the NHS. It also works wonders, is gentle, no perfume etc and there's a baby range too. Hope this proves useful and good luck x

we used to use dream cream and dream wash for dd, and still get the dream cream as dh is an itchybugger. He doesn't like the new olive oil (I think) based one though.

DD mostly gets her own stuff now, but she also rates the ultrabland from lush

We also had success with Salcura Products particularly the Zeoderm and the Dermaspray when she was getting particularly bad and the other stuff was not making so much difference.
