Nightwear for night sweats

So for at least 7 nights in the run up to my period I have the most hideous hideous night sweats. They have been going on for a year and I've only just managed to get my gp to take me seriously. I'm only 41 but my mum suffered badly so think I will too.

What sort of clothing is good to sleep in? Google isn't helping, and wondering if there is anything out there at all that won't leave me drenched and shivering half the night. It's bloody awful!

Is there anything out there that helps? I'm getting desperate!

Try natural fibre so cotton or bamboo

I go for turning the heating right down when I come to bed, wearing a long sleeve cotton pj top, but only with a few of the middle buttons done up.

I'm always cold when I go to bed, so start off with a duvet and blanket, but usually by halfway through the night I've lost the duvet to DH's side of the bed, and only have the blanket partially covering me, which works out quite well!

I can't sleep with anything on my bottom half, or I end up with a very sweaty crotch area - only happens at night, I'm not a sweaty crotch person by day, even when working out!

I’m currently getting hot sweats 4 times a night and am waiting to see the gp as it’s really disrupting my sleep. The only thing that works for me is H&M Pima cotton shortie pjs & nightie or a silk camisole shortie set. I need to be able to flip the top up as the heat seems to spread from just below my boobs and all the way down to my feet. Linen sheets really help as well. I don’t have any heating on at night and sleep with the windows wide open in all temperatures.

oreos surely the heating is off at night anyway? We only ever have heating on at night if it is something like -10.

Thanks for the suggestions. We do always have our heat off at night and I sleep with the windows open. My biggest problem is I wake up drenched but shivering which is awful and it happens over and over.

Perhaps a cami set in bamboo is worth a try...

Have you spoke to your GP about this? If not I strongly suggest you do as night sweats can be the side effects of serious illnesses.

CakeInMyFace · 24/02/2019 12:02

@singingismypassion yes my gp is aware. It's not a serious illness unless you consider peri-menopause to be!

This is totally cyclical in the run up to my periods I am healthy as a horse otherwise. But thank you. Xx

I've been having this for a few years.
Need pj's to absorb sweat but cotton for me is a no no. It gets drenched and cold.
I've recently bought 'yoga ' breathable top and bottom in a bigger size than normal so it's not tight.
Awesome.
I got mlifelondon.com/sale.html 70% off. So soft and so good in bed.
I looked at specific night sweat/menopause marketed stuff and I hated the look and price

I think some of the artificial materials that wick sweat away from you might be better. I agree that cotton is horrible once you are drenched. Cotton layers are discouraged in arctic climes for this reason. so, mad as it migh seem I would look at loose fitness clothes.
