I can’t cope with this awful skin anymore (pic)

Please help! It is almost certainly hormonal. The only time it has ever been clear is when I was on the combined pill, but that made me so full of rage constantly I can’t be on it anymore.

It was also perfectly clear for a few days after I gave birth last month. Now it’s slowly becoming awful again.

I feel so unbelievably unattractive. Is there anything that can help?

I would take a trip to your gp and tell them everything you have mentioned here, see what they can suggest to remedy your skin

notanothernam · 23/02/2019 13:59

My skin was like this, 10 years of beauty regimes and antibiotics, you name it I tried and the only thing that worked was roaccutane from the dermatologist, been acne free for 2 years now.

BillywigSting · 23/02/2019 13:59

There absolutely is. Get yourself to the gp.

Mine looked exactly like yours 8 months ago, it was really painful and inflamed too.

Gp gave me some prescription cream and antibiotics (I also stared the depo shot and have had no side effects apart no periods, when every combined pill I ever tried wrecked havoc).

It's not completely clear now but some of that is just scars. I can cover it easily with make-up and it doesn't hurt anything like as much.

I am going to go back though and chase a referral to a dermatologist to get it totally under control though

I had similar. Tried just about everything, only thing that worked for me was roaccutane (sp?). Go to your gp and see if she has any suggestions, or ask for a referral to a dermatologist.

I’ve heard great things about light therapy. I had acne in my 30s, especially after the birth of DC1 (I was 29). That’s 17 years ago. Proactiv was my friend and it worked a treat for me. But things have moved on.

I’d look at light therapy masks.

OP, your skin looks very similar to mine towards the end of last year. My GP prescribed me a cream that contains an antibiotic & benzoyl peroxide, I’ve been using it for about 12 weeks (had a review after 8 weeks) and it has really helped to improve things.
In the initial appointment my GP also outlined a progression of treatment options for me, she really helped me feel that I wasn’t alone with it.

GregoryPeckingDuck · 23/02/2019 14:09

What is your current regime like? My initial thoughts would be a round of antibiotics to deal with inflammation then intensive exfoliation to prevent future outbreaks.

freemefromacne · 23/02/2019 14:11

Thank you all, I have my post natal check with the GP on Tuesday so I will mention it then. It’s so sore. I never had a single spot in my teens, but now in my 30s and covered in them. Sad

Gregory my regime is pretty non existent to be honest. I got so fed up of trying lotions and potions that I now just use water to cleanse apart from an exfoliation once a week.

I have struggled with skin like this for such a long time, you have my sympathy. I have tried everything but roaccutane, I am currently using the calm range by Paula’s choice and the difference it has made is great, it’s not perfect but is no longer painful Smile

GP.

Will prkbably suggest anti biotics first which can work. If no joy though after the first few months get back to GP and request a referral to Dermatology.

Don't suffer longer than you need to. Skincare wise - less is more in my opinion. Clean and moisturised is enough. Too much product can cause more sensitivity and problems.

I am on a low dose of Spironaltone. Not heard of regularly (although more prevalent in recent years) as a treatment for acne but it's very effective for me. Banishes the oil in the same way as the pill (Dianette) did for me.
