Skincare. Help.
I m over 40 skin is fair and looks ok but I am prone to congestion and dryness, pores and hormonal breakouts.
I m so confused - acids scrubs peels moisturisers serums butters.... how do I figure out what I need?
I m a bit sensitive, I don't love the feel of stuff 'on' my skin. I wear make up most days s (foundation primer bronzer/ blush - and mascara )
I use Kiehls eye cream and repair oil.

I think I probably need some sort of night cream and a light day time serum ?

Can anyone recommend where I should start please ? I don't understand all that s availabe out there what the products do and where to even start, I d be so grateful if someone could even recommend where I should read - something not too confusing or overwhelming please ?!

Good places to start are carolins hirons website which does good cheat sheets and lots of helpful advice.
I also like Paula’s choice and her beautypaedia. Her website has a load of info on it which is really useful for explaining each step of skincare and dispels myths etc. The beautypaidia part is handy. If I am ever thinking of trying a new product I see if there is a review on it there first. It has a lot of the bigger brands ( more American).

As a beginner with sensitive skin like me I would start with a good plain balm cleanser, I love Clinique take the day off, and start double cleansing, a decent serum, a moderately priced moisturiser, and a mineral only spf for day ( I like Clinique city block sheer as it is moisturising, doesn’t leave a white cast, or affect my sensitive skin and I can use round my eyes).

Cleansing and spf are the most important things. Put your money into good serums. Vit c, hyaloronic acid, ceramides are good).

If you are going to go into exfoliant tread slowly, start with a mild bha (salicylic acid) once a week and see how you go on.

Once you have the basics in place maybe look into retinol. But get the basics right first.
