Finally plucked up the courage to do something but not sure about the make up side.
I want to book one of those make up sessions, but how do I choose which brand, or is one recommended.
They all seem to use one brand so not sure which.
Foundation is crepey on me or duey and not covering.
Has anyone been and what do they do?

What kind of look do you like?

What department stores are near you?

What is your budget?

How old are you?

No reason why you can’t pick a couple of counters and try them out and then buy from the one you like the most.

Most of them will try some things on you especially if they think you will buy and especially if you go when they are not too busy eg daytime in the week.

You could just explain you are looking for new products and can they try some things out on you.

I like mineral make up for face make up. Bare minerals is affordable and good quality. I really like Laura Geller which I recently discovered.

Benefit is fun and good quality.

As a starting point you could watch some QVC beauty to see them putting on products or watch some YouTube videos on different brands or make up tutorials.

Good thinking, I didn't think of tutorials.
I'm 52 and have been through the mill a bit recently, so having a complete make over.
Make up seems to be a sticking point, it just looks awful now.
I obviously need to find the right texture of foundation but I'm struggling and won't be able to afford the top end stuff but realise you get what you pay for, something mid range would be good. Then the cheaper end for other make up.

I agree it’s worth getting a good base and then you can get cheaper things for eyes and cheeks etc.

I think it is worth trying something like bare minerals or Laura Geller. You can get good coverage with a natural look and powders are so easy to apply in my opinion

If you go on the qvc website and click on different products like bare minerals foundation or Laura Geller foundation then you can click on a video to see it in action. They also do other brands like Benefit which might help you see which counters to go to and get an idea of what you want in terms of colours. I’d say neutral colours are a good start, nothing too bright.

YouTube can give you good cheap alternatives too.

Also if you go to a make up counter and get them to do a full face on you, you could buy a foundation from them if you like but then go to L’Oréal or Revlon etc and see if you can find matches for the blushers and eyes shadows if you like the colours.

Bare minerals do kits like this

www.bareminerals.co.uk/makeup/face/foundation-kits/original-foundation-get-started-kit/UKmasterGSK18.html

It has the foundation, powder brush and primer

Obviously you can get good deals online too

Also TK Maxx often have bare minerals so if you get colour matched you might be able to get a kit in there but no guarantees obviously

Thank you very much Alice, and others, I'll get on to this now.

Highly recommend Lisa Eldridge videos on YouTube. She works with Lancôme but uses a range of products for all budgets and is a proper trained working make up artist. Very easy to follow and normal looks.
