Mixed race child, accidental face lightening - pls help

My daughter is 13yrs old with light mixed skin. I’ve just noticed her face is slightly lighter than her skin round the edge of her face, neck etc today. I don’t know how this has happened.
This is what she does to her face....
She loves using different types of face masks a couple of times a week. She wears foundation everyday and takes it off with face wipes either at night or in the morning.
My mum bought her for Christmas an electric Oscillation Facial Brush for her face and tea tree face wash. Her reason is to help with her getting teenage spots. She’s only used the tea tree face wash a few times, same with the face brush.
She used the Tea tree face wash and facial brush this morning. I went to see her and noticed this. I normally only see her with foundation on so don’t know if this has just happened or has been like this for days, weeks, months etc.
Really paranoid now as obviously we don’t want this to happen.
I know when I shave my legs they lighten slightly for 1/2hr or so then go back to normal, notice this more when I have a sun tan.
She’s on her way out so can’t tell her to leave her makeup off for the day and see what happens.
Am I being silly? Will it go back to normal like what happens to my legs? I’ve told her no face masks or using anything for a week on her face apart from her makeup to see.
Sorry for long msg, any advice please xxx

Could be vitiligo which is harmless

I say advise her to go easy on the oscillating brush. Black and mixed race peopke tend to produce more melanin and more oils in their skin. It is more sensitive to blemishes and uneveness of skin tone if irritated. Like if I scratch my skin a lot it turns into a dark patch that is really noticable. The brush might be fine once a week say, but I wouldn't advise more than that especially as she has young skin! Witch hazel is an astringent and can be harsh and strip the skin of its natural oils she ought to go easy on both.

Another thing to consider is hormonal changes - she's still going through puberty and sunlight it may get more even once we start getting some decent sun.

But as regards the foundation maybe switch to a tinted moisturiser some days?

You're welcome.
Also, black and mixed race skin tends to become dry easily. Using harsh chemicals leads to excessively dry or oily skin, which is a nightmare to get right again!
Depending how fair/dark she is, some mixed race skin responds better to moisturisers designed for black people. It will be trial and error, as it is for all of us, but at her age maybe help her select very gentle products and moisturisers.

It’s probably just from exfoliating. Does it really matter if she is constantly wearing foundation?

I'm black and my colouring changes dramatically during winter. I wouldn't worry too much but would suggest she try something more gentle on her skin and tinted moisturiser.

hmm, I have a 13 year old, and she doesn't wear foundation at all.

I would be really concerned if my 13 year old wore make up every single day, to the extent that I rarely see her without it.

At dds school, any obviousl visible make up and she would be told to remove it. Years 10 and 11 can have mascara only.

While that is tough (and they do allow concealer etc) it does mean that non of the girls wear it, so none have the whole peer pressure for make up

Is she removing facial hair? When I have my eyebrows done after a bit of a lazy break, the skin that is exposed is lighter.
