Nail emergency!

Ok so I’m not the type of person to go off for weekly manicures and rarely wear nail polish but I need some help here.

My nails were a decent length, filed nearly etc but I managed to rip them all off (don’t ask) doing a fairly manual activity. So they are all now as short as you can get without biting them down and looking pretty grim.

Here’s the good part - I need to look all smart and polished for a ‘thing’ mid-week (this week coming) and my hands look like I’ve been howking tatties.

Any suggestions as to how I can do some damage limitation and not look like I have been hammering sheet metal with my bare hands (not far off how I actually did break them all).

Why don't you go for a manicure and see if someone can make them look ok? A file and polish even with a pale pink might make them look ok.

(not helpful: 😂😂 at the howking tatties description - such a perfect description of how my nails look most of the time - I'm going to nick that to use!)

There’s not much to file, dammit! I read online (🙄) that soaking them in warm olive oil for 20 mins might help.

Short nails can still look lovely. You just need to give them, and the skin around them a bit of TLC. Book yourself a manicure and get a nude polish. Use hand cream. You'll notice a difference in no time.

What about buying some false nails to glue on for the event? I tend to get my nails done (gel/acrylic) if i'm going on holiday or for my birthday as a treat but i'll often buy false nails. There are all sorts of prices and styles to choose from and if you want them short they have those too or you can file them down, and there are plain ones you can paint a colour of your choice also. Simple fix?

I'm with LH0914. Primark stick on ones are very good and only about £3/4. You can get a natural length in colour or french manicure look. You can of course get the long talons too if you want something more full on.

@LG0914, sorry.

I’ve booked myself in for a manicure - that technician certainly has her work cut out for her! I’m hoping it won’t look too awful.

Hi OP in the meantime try massaging a little oil (almond or olive are good) at least once a day ... you may find the massage action will get blood circulation going which will give them a good start plus the surrounding skin and your cuticles will be in better condition ready for the manicure.

PS Dior Nail Glow is quite a nice product it tends to make the pink part pinker and the whites whiter. A bit pricey but it'll last you ages. I save my Boots points up for it 😊
