Very Fine Thinning Hair

Has anyone got any ideas of what to do with my hair? It's always been fine but I've recently been put on medication that is making it fall out and thin further. I'm refusing to get massively upset as I have enough problems on my plate at the moment and my DDad had offered to pay for me to have it done next week.

It's currently in a very plain long bob but it's beginning to thin at the ends at this length. Colour wise it's a brunette type of balayage with some blonde.

I definitely do not want a pixie cut I'm not pretty enough and carrying a bit of weight due to said medication. I also don't want hair pieces or extensions.

What would you do? 😭😭😭

Use faux hair accessories to pile it up into a bun. If it's thin on the crown, maybe a french plait. Try Caboki, - you sprinkle it on your scalp to disguise thinning. Take biotin vitamins. I have had thinning hair in the past and did all these.

Thanks Kathleen - I'm not sure I can take Biotin (I'm on a right cocktail of drugs and have to be really careful). Will have a look at the other.

Hi OP, I have a similar situation, and am really struggling with it. If I put it up, you can see my scalp through it, so makes it look worse.

The only thing that makes it look better is to curl it quite a lot (I use heated rollers) to give it lots of bounce.

Having a trim will help too, with maybe layers cut in? I also use a keratin powder (the same colour as my hair) to help make it look thicker.

I'm also on lots of meds and have lost a lot of hair. I find it looks better shorter (not necessarily pixie, although that has worked for me in the past). I also find that having colour in it (not bleach) plumps it out a bit.

Thanks everyone

The L'Oréal professionnel root spray is pretty good. Is designed to cover root regrowth but I know a fair few ladies who use it to help disguise hair thinning too.

(The L'Oréal spray they sell in boots is rubbish though)

There's a treatment called Nioxin (shampoo, conditioner & treatment) for thinning hair (NOT loss of hair). Can get different strengths for how thin your hair is. A lot of chemo-recovering women use it as their hair grows back very fine. Works a treat!

If it's tamoxifen you take then it's hormonal hairloss. You can use Minoxidil as it's topical, also the only proven treatment.

Greyhound22 · 16/02/2019 09:14

It'a not Tamoxifen (although this has done the same to MIL) it's Rivaroxaban. And stress.

I've found peptide shampoo helps, a shorter bob and lowlights to give texture in term of colour and literal texture.

Then I use a narrow crimping tong to crimp the roots which adds lift and body.
