Philips Lumea - Amazon Deal Today Only £174.99!

The corded Philips Lumea is Deal of the Day on Amazon at £174.99.

This is a fantastic price, and IMO the corded version is superior to the cordless as you have no issues with the battery completely failing if it is not charged regularly (watch out for this, those of you with cordless Lumeas, particularly during the Winter), and also no issues with the charge running out when you have only done one leg...

Personally I never use the face attachment on my Lumea as it works perfectly on my face without needing it, and I love my bush au naturel so I have never needed the bikini attachment, but this model comes with both if they are needed.

Thank you! I’ve been debating whether to get one for ages because they are so expensive but I think I’m going to take the plunge today. That offer is too good to pass up Smile

Newsername · 14/02/2019 09:27

I think there are so many women thinking about purchasing the lumea on MN, this deserves a regular bump today!

MorticiaAddamsIsMyStyleGuru · 14/02/2019 09:37

I am sorely tempted to buy this! I'm unsure of the model though. The last thread I read on here the model recommended was reduced from around £500 to around the £250 mark. So I assume it's a different model.
How much does that matter?

myidentitymycrisis · 14/02/2019 10:04

I’ve been reading the reviews, which are mixed. I have fair skin and dark hair but I understand it will only slow growth not stop it. so am I right in thinking my legs will feel hairy as quickly after shaving as they do now but it will not get long so quickly?

GotRedOnYou · 14/02/2019 11:36

This is the older model which I believe is only up to 75% hair reduction after 4 treatments whereas the newer model (prestige) is up to 92% after 3.

MorticiaAddamsIsMyStyleGuru · 14/02/2019 11:53

Thank you GotRedOnYou! I'll hang off for the new one then. 👍🏻

wink1970 · 14/02/2019 12:39

I've got one, and it works, but I'll be honest I preferred my old Braun one (now since discontinued). I find this one you sometime have to push down onto your skin really hard for it to 'connect' - and don't get em started on it's approach to knees!

Then again, mine is the old version, so i'm probably just out of date!

wink1970 · 14/02/2019 12:42

@myidentitymycrisis

No it will cause the hair to drop out, it takes a few weeks as you have various hair cycles and (IIRC) you have to blast each hair 3 or 4 times. But you have to keep up to it, and many people don't. After many many years (I was an early adopter), I only now run mine over my legs about every 4 weeks, most of the hair loss has been permanent (except my bloody knees!). My underarms and bikini gave up trying to grow back years ago.

Haffiana · 14/02/2019 14:41

I think the 3 or 4 times usage is a red herring. The reason for 4 treatments spread out at 2 week intervals is to catch all hairs in the growing phase of their cycle. Once that is done, then a top up once every 3-4 months is sufficient for most people. If you let that lapse, then you have to do the first 3-4 treatments again. In fact I let mine lapse in the Winter because I am lazy, and 2 sessions in the Spring is enough to stop almost all growth.

As a pp has said, my hair is far, far more sparse than it was before I got a Lumea (and my beard and 'tache are more or less non-existent!!), although the treatment does not claim to be permanent - what it does is put the hair follicle into a resting phase where it does not produce growth. So no, in answer to myidentitymycrisis it doesn't feel stubbly because there are no hairs at all. The existing stubble drops out and there is no new growth.

The best reason to get the most expensive model is if you have dark skin and/or very pale hair. It seems this model is effective on a shade darker skin, although there is a limit on this because Lumea works with light and needs to be able to affect the hair follicle which therefore has to be darker than the surrounding skin. I have a few very fine transparent hairs on my legs which are completely unaffected by the Lumea, but I can only see them with a bright torch and a squint anyway!

I have never needed more than 3 treatments for my hairs to disappear, but I suspect that is my hair and its growing cycles, not the model of Lumea.

I've got a cordless Lumea and I love it! Re-charging it has never been much of a hassle!

Fazackerley · 14/02/2019 14:57

I've used min3 three times. No difference on beard, but huge difference on legs. In doing legs again tomorrow, then going away for a week and I doubt I'll need to shave!

myidentitymycrisis · 14/02/2019 15:11

Thanks for the update, I’m more tempted now

CoolCarrie · 14/02/2019 17:24

Definitely worth getting, it has made a huge difference to my lower legs in particular. Read the instructions before you start, and be patient.

Waystobewicked · 14/02/2019 21:38

If you are in 2 minds and can afford do it!
