Upper lip hair removal?

So I've spent years having my moustache waxed and threaded and would love a long term solution. Has anyone tried laser hair removal, on their face in particular? Or do you have another way of keeping it at bay? The cost isn't really the issue, it's more the fact that I have to get it done every few weeks and would love not to have to

Following, I’ve also got hairs growing on or around my chin.

Pinkyyy · 10/02/2019 13:12

I get a couple of those too, I get so embarrassed by them because they're thick and dark and always carry a pair of tweezers

I love these. They’re cheap, only take a few seconds, and can be used anytime. I usually keep one beside my bed and give my chin a once over every few mornings. Upper lip does sting a bit, but no more than waxing or threading. You can get lots of different versions at different prices, but they’re all just variations on bits of the wire used to unblock sinks but with handles attached.

Watching with interest, would love to hear about laser hair removal for tashes.

Pinkyyy · 10/02/2019 23:51

@LellyMcKelly I've seen those but never thought they'd actually work, may give it a try, thanks!

I would too @Mindgone because I really don't know much about it at all so I was hoping someone may have some experience for us!

Yes - seconding the at home threading contraptions. It stings on the upper lip, but is private and done every 3-4 days takes about 5mins

Seafour · 10/02/2019 23:57

I had extensive laser treatment almost twelve years ago, legs, pits, chin, upper lip worth every penny, results were fantastic and I have a home laser for any breakthrough hairs.
The hairs do need to be dark and my skin is quite pale which also helps get good results.

Newsername · 10/02/2019 23:59

Forget those contraptions. Buy a Philips lumea and be hair free. I’ve been using one on my upper lip and chin and cheeks for 5 years now and it changed my life. I hardly use it now, maybe once a month for touch ups.

Pinkyyy · 11/02/2019 00:03

Some great advice, thank you! Just had a look at the Philips lumea, is it like a home laser machine? Are there any negatives to it @Seafour I'm worried about the area scabbing over afterwards and walking around with a red scabby tash for days!

newsername do you have to shave first though? That's what puts me off. Stubble fear!

Newsername · 11/02/2019 08:17

Yes you have to shave, but the hair that grows back after about the first two weeks just falls out. You can help it along by exfoliating or shaving it again. Really there wasn’t much stubble if you keep on top and do it every 2 weeks religiously until you notice a decline in grow back hair. Should take about 6-7 weeks. Well worth it!

@pinkyyy yes it’s a home laser but using light flashes. Feels like elastic band pings and works best on dark hair and light skin.

Mindgone · 11/02/2019 10:35

Interesting, thanks.
Does anyone know how you would go about finding someone professional and reliable and safe to do it? I’m scared too!

Pinkyyy · 11/02/2019 11:07

@Newsername thank you! The shaving part sounds troublesome for me as the thought of having stubble is a big problem for me. Perhaps I just need to suck it up for the results though

Immediately after having it done, the area was very red but they put an ice pack on it and then some soothing gel. I then put my normal make up on and you couldn't see anything.
The thing that can cause scabbing is sunlight so it's important to wear total sunblock and avoid sun beds etc.
It's a Philips lumea that I use for the odd hair that appears now.
I also use a NoNo for peach fuzz on my face, the hairs are fair so laser wouldn't work.

Seafour · 11/02/2019 11:13

Don't worry about the shaving bit, I was told not to pluck any hairs out for three days before treatment, I did trim a couple of chin hairs, you know the ones that appear overnight and are about 4cm long when you discover them. They did the shaving at the salon immediately before treatment, I never had any stubble.

DidoAndHerLament · 11/02/2019 11:23

I've bleached, waxed, depilated and plucked for years but recently tried the springy epilator stick. It takes a while to figure out the best technique, but now I think it's amazing. No soreness or stubble and once you've got the hang of it, it just takes a few minutes once a week. I do it in front the tv Grin
