Make up tips?

I'm completely rubbish with beauty and makeup but my skin is getting so much worse as I'm getting older that I feel I need to learn and get some tips! I currently use a green concealer for red blotches, then no7 foundation and then a no7 concealer on top but it still doesn't make my skin look much better. What products am I missing and any advice what I should be getting to get a more fresh flawless yet natural look? I also find that this comes off really easily. If I blow my nose for example then it all comes off instantly and I'm left with my blotchy red nose again. Any tips? Before and after foundation pics attached

You could try using a primer, and powder to set the foundation? And a fixing spray on top ? Sounds like a lot I know!

Thank you. Is it best to use add powder on top with brush or a powder with a pad? X

I think your make up looks a little cakey, I would start with getting more moisture into your skin with a good cream, or serum etc. then get a good primer to help the foundation smooth on and stay on. I would set it with a loose powder and a big fluffy brush.

I use a serum then factor 30 or 50 suncream on top (currently Altuist). I sometimes mix a foundation with suncream to make a tinted moisturiser. Then I use a mineral powder to finish with.

I mention this because some suncreams are sticky and not easily rubbed off. I think they make a good base, especially for a powder foundation, also gives you sun protection.

If you use powder, either loose or a compact is fine, it's a matter of finding one you like. Powder isn't so "old lady" these days, my 20 yr old DD uses it! I use loose with a big brush, as does DD. Swirl the brush in the powder and tap it on the side of the container to remove excess.

Also I think you'd benefit from a nice Rosie shaded blusher. Either scream one applies after foundation and before powder or a soft slightly sheer powder one. Pop it high in your cheeks. I think blusher suits 99% off people.

I’m 48 and have recently overhauled my makeup to take account of my changing skin. My makeup needs to last all day but I don’t want to feel it.

I use a serum after showering and then about 5 mins before makeup I moisturise using a non-oily version, anything going, but the key for me now is that I need to not look caked and that means the prep has to be more mosturised than I thought skin. I thought doing this step iwould make my makeup slide, as I still have combination skins, but it doesn’t. I then wet a sponge triangle and use about 5 dots of EL ‘double wear’ - but again the key is it’s really diluted by the watery sponge.

Once that’s blended I do the rest, concealer (touché eclat), mascara & cream blush (respectively benefit and Chanel). For day I don’t set using powder, but for night I set using Chanel ‘Les Beiges’ which seems to be a cross between powder and bronze.

Hope that helps,

I used a MAC primer. It's expensive but really good
