Can someone recommend a good facial moisturiser?

Please be gentle, I am totally clueless when it comes to beauty products Blush I've never been into make up. I confess I am utterly hopeless!

So, I wear basic foundation (Rimmel), bit of eye liner and mascara. That's it. I'm clueless to anything else. Wash my face twice a day with a cheap Tesco foam face wash.

Recently, I've noticed my face looks worn, dry and basically like leather (especially my forehead).

What can I use to make my skin look fresh/not dry/glowing?

I'm mid-thirties if that matters! Again, please be kind. I feel quite embarrassed even asking! Blush

I used to use the nivea soft moisturiser, it was great for my skin for years then something changed and my skin got a bit oilier, (prob hormones or something) now a use a moisturiser called cerave, it's very good, no perfume, nice and light on the skin. You can get them with an spf in but that makes my eyes nip so I just use the normal one.

Destinesia · 09/02/2019 20:18

Another vote for Cerave, the one without the spf (spf makes my eyes water too)

I'm 34, and love Pond's Cold Cream. I use it as a mask in the evening, then wipe off with a warm washcloth. Avon night moisturiser afterwards.

I use normally use Liz Earle or Elizabeth Arden 8 hour stuff if my skin is really dry...both seem to do the job!

WheelAndDome · 09/02/2019 20:26

Ponds cold cream

hugoagogo · 09/02/2019 20:28

Eucerin has been a revelation to me I like the one in the pot with the blue lid.here

buckleten · 09/02/2019 20:38

Boots no.7 protect and perfect is fantastic

E20mom · 09/02/2019 20:42

I've bought all kinds of expensive ones but the one that's best for my skin is Oil of Olay!

mintbiscuit · 09/02/2019 20:44

Cerave.

flameycakes · 09/02/2019 20:47

Skin so dry that it cracks at times, I've started using Aveeno just over a week ago and it has made such a difference, I'm well pleased x

Jassyjac · 09/02/2019 22:29

Thank you all!

When do you put it on? Nighttime before bed? Or morning under makeup?

Aldi's caviar cream (about £6) is fab for my very dry skin. I use it after washing in the morning, and never wear makeup- never have done, mid 40's now.

Paddingtonthebear · 09/02/2019 23:03

I use..

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel Cleanser (cheapest bought from Amazon)

Nip Fab Extreme Glycolic Pads (use one every other night, cheapest bought on Amazon)
Olay Total Effects 7-in-1 moisturiser (morning and night, again from Amazon)

I got a free bottle of Neals Yard Beauty Sleep Concentrate which is bloody lovely but £££ apparently, and I alternate this every other night with the Olay moisturiser.

All this has really improved my skin and mostly not that expensive. I have used more expensive products previously and not had as good results.

Superficial B Radiant. Different day cream and night cream. In the morning after cleansing under makeup and at night. It's on offer atm. A serum will help too. And sunscreen.

Imperfectsusan · 09/02/2019 23:27

Basic Astral cream.

Tavannach · 10/02/2019 00:19

Superdrug, not Superficial!

Thecrown3 · 10/02/2019 03:44

Another vote for astral!
I’ve used v expensive creams and v cheap creams.the promises of the expensive creams never materialised.
Astral is a very rich cream so a little goes a long way.I work outside all day and normally in winter my skin gets very dry but since using astral it hasn’t at all !

similarminimer · 10/02/2019 03:54

Think about changing your face wash too - some foaming washes can really dry out the skin.

FormerlyFrikadela01 · 10/02/2019 07:20

Maybe try some hyalouronuc acid (the ordinary do a good one) as well as moisturiser. Superdrug do some nice moisturizers in their own brand ranges. I've done tonnes of research and the general consensus is that normal moisturiser (ie without any active ingredients) is not the place to be spending lots of money on.

Vividdreaming · 10/02/2019 11:22

Pounds cold cream followed by their moisturiser. I have bought far mor expensive ones in past but not as good.

Jassyjac · 10/02/2019 16:25

Thank you everyone! I'm going to look into all your suggestions and pop to Boots this week.

Maybe by 40 I'd have sorted myself out a little! GrinWink
