So I'm starting a new job in a couple of weeks - woo hoo! My last job had quite a casual dress code, but this new role I want to look a bit smarter and more professional. I don't need to wear suits but I'd like to look a bit more sharp and tailored.

Can anyone recommend good places for smart work clothes and shoes, not too staid or formal.

I don't have oodles of money to spend so am probably looking at the low-mid range of the market.

Sainsbury's is great for basics though the blazers aren't a great fit for me (thick waisted). Today im wearing this skirt from Sainsbury's with a black top with lace trim.

If you don't need a blazer or suit jacket then H&M cardigans are great at 7.99, I have them in loads colours.

There are still some good bargains in the sale and outlet sections of Hobbs and Reiss, might be able to get something reduced if you have a look.

Otherwise Oasis has some nice, cheap formal stuff as well as Next and M&S.

I use Cos, Uniqlo, M&S and Jigsaw for work clothes. Always check out the sales too, especially on websites such as John Lewis clearance. I’ve found some good bargains there.

I love Tesco's and next sale

The Fold has sharp workwear as does Hobbs, Jaegar online and LK Bennett

Cos and John Lewis (especially sale time)

Believe it or not good old Tesco have some cracking work wear. I have a few suit type dresses from there that look smart, are comfortable, wash well and have lasted. I was sceptical but recommended by a colleague after I commented on how well put together she always looks.

Their printed pencil skirts are a favourite of mine, suck the tum in, sensible length for sitting in and have a bit of give

I get most of my stuff from H&M.

I really rate warehouse for tops and dresses and H&M for smart trousers, as well as jigsaw and whistles (usually in the sale!)

I have some lovely wrap dresses from Dorothy Perkins. About £30 a pop, drip dry and hang really well. I have a lot of black dresses for winter and I wear them with long jewelly coloured cardigans and toning scarves. Also have a few fitted jackety cardigans from Boden. That's as smart as I have to get for work.

Zara do some nice workwear. I also have a few tops from Sainsbury’s that wash really well.
