Growing colour out of hair

How do I grow the colour of my hair and leaving it natural? I'm only nearly 33 but I have probably about 15% grey and I would just like to grow it out and own it! I find having to dye it every 4 weeks is annoying and I never get round to it which looks worse!

I went cold turkey: I cut it short and avoided mirrors for about 18 months. Best decision.

Cold turkey! Wowsers. I should probably do that

I originally went down the route of bleaching my hair and using a really light toner. I hoped this would help blend in my root growth, it did work and I loved being platinum blonde but my hair ended up like straw. I'm a spontaneous type person and one evening I just shaved all my hair off. The silver was incredible, IMO. I love my natural white streaks, just like natures highlights.

I tied my hair back and wore hats or headscarves.

Aprilshowersarecomingsoon · 07/02/2019 19:43

I used a hair colour stripper kit.
Had honestly forgotten my hair was so blonde!

Hairbands are trendy now.

I went cold turkey. I'm nearly a year and a half in and about to chop the last of the dye off. It has been hard to not cave in and dye it along the way, but I'm really glad I stuck at it. Follow accounts on Instagram like Grombre to help with inspiration.

Cold turkey here too. The first 4 months were the worst, but after that people figured it must be deliberate. I did cut a lot off but growing it back now... and it is so much healthier and I'm embracing the grey bits!

Cut it as short as it needs to go. Will save you loads of time, effort and cash. And will cause a stir amongst those who know you.

Another cold turkey. Naturally blonde but ended up having highlights for years and years. 2 years into growing it out and it looks fine, never looked terrible (I don’t think!), it’s handy that ombré is a thing. My hair is really long and I’ve not had the lighter ends chopped right off which I could easily do. I’m in for the long haul now. My natural colour looks so much better against my skin and brows.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I went cold turkey too!
I grew it out until it looked a bit ombre, then realised how damaged it all was, so got it chopped off into a pixie. I'm growing it out now, but my natural colour looks so much better - it suits my skin tone and is in such better condition.

Another one who went cold turkey. I had a short pixie so it didn't take long till the dyed bits were all cut off. Now it's a lot more healthy I can grow it past my shoulders without breakage from the dye so I'm letting it doing its thing and aiming for a long as possible. I'm also early 30s and mostly 75% grey and I just couldn't bear the thought of having to dye every 1-2 weeks for the next 25 years just to try and look younger. It wasn't until a friend of mine said "its not the grey hair that makes you look old, old fashioned thinking makes you look old".

hotwing · 08/02/2019 12:08

I wish I didn't look so shit in headbands

A year ish ago I used a colour stripper (colour b4) and then dyed my hair the closest shade to my natural colour that I could find.

I still use that colour and I think the build up on the ends has made it too dark again.

I think the best way is probably cold turkey!
