How would you style this dress so I can actually wear it?

Hi all,

I found this in my cupboard, hardly worn because the colour does nothing for me. I'd like to style it a bit, maybe with an inside top so I can wear it maybe boho style. I'm dark skinned so was thinking fuschia bodysuit (does that sound rubbish, if not, where can I get one?), tights and black ankle boots?.....Any ideas on how to do it, accessories etc would be great!!!

Yes, it'd look great with fuscia or the yellow top you posted underneath it. Thick tights, boots or kitten heels /loafers.

Does it have to be a fuscia body suit? Could you just wear a bright coloured vest underneath?

This may sound crazy as I can't see exactly how the dress works, but could you wear it open, as jacket?

@halfwitpicker it's sortof like a judo outfit so ties at the side. I thought to wear a top inside but was thinking is there a cooler way, like a high neck top or belt or something else to make it funnier or boho

I think it's actually already pretty cool and different. if you've got the legs to pull it off (too short for my stumpy thighs!)

Black tights and ankle boots would be perfect - and generally make dresses look a little cooler already.

If the colour doesn't suit you and you have dark skin it would like great with red or coral/orange - either lipstick, nails, vest underneath or all of the above. And chunky jewellery

You could definitely wear a high neck top under that ina colour that you suit, maybe cherry red would look good with the navy? Then thick tights, ankle boots or knee-high boots. Or heels, depending on where you're going. If with heels then wear thinner tights.

I have this dress! It's a bit more blue blue rather than navy blue in real life IYSWIM and quite a formal fabric so it might be a bit difficult to make it look more boho and I'm not sure about the bright colours working with it - it's just too blue. If you want a contrasting colour, a more muted shade would probably work better.

I tend to wear it with black tights, ankle boots and a big chunky black Victorian brooch. I think the dress works best sticking to simplicity and a minimalist look.

Love the dress! Where is it from?

Eesha · 07/02/2019 18:26

@LunaTheCat it's Topshop, but quite old now. I've seen blush version on eBay though

Luna, it's Topshop Boutique circa 2015. You might find one on Ebay.

Yes definitely will go with a top layered underneath. Coral looks great with navy. Maybe switch the tie belt for something a bit more contrasting too. Tights plus boots (animal print maybe) would look very funky. Leather jacket
