Cracked heels - SOS!

cornflakes5 · 06/02/2019 10:22

I have permanently cracked heels. I know not why - I moisturise them all the time with foot cream and I wear sensible shoes. I'm early 30s btw.

So, can anyone recommend a solution? A particularly thick cream (I've tried neutrogena concentrated cream and Bodyshop)? Some sort of industrial sander?

Thank you!

Yellow Soft Paraffin Wax (I got it on prescription but you can also buy it at the chemist's) worked for me. My heels were so badly cracked and bleeding that I could barely walk. I put a thick layer on the affected area before bed, wrapped in cling film and popped on some socks. Now they've improved a lot, I leave out the cling film step.

OK, I'm sure I sound like a weirdo but are you diabetic or do you eat a lot if sugar? I'm really interested in feet and health and have noticed a correlation, my DM had very dry feet for years before being diagnosed with type two diabetes

With Diabetes the Autonomic Nervous System is affected (that;s the one that causes sweating and goosebumps) so the feet are drier because of the lack of natural perspiration

Add loss of sensation and reduced healing and reduced circulation into the mix. Higher risk of fungal or candida infection .

We recommend Allpressan Foam for diabetic feet , its lightweight and very easily absorbed plus it doesn't stop dressings sticking !

So:
Dry file - double sided foot file to reduce the dry skin, put a towel down , it comes off like dust.
Wash feet and lightly dab
Rub in your cream (Urea helps the skin absorb the water )
Put a pair of socks on, helps absorbtion by warmth and keeps the .cream in place , but you don't need excess , just as much as will rub in

Do the every 2-3 days and the cream every day. .

;'Do the file every 2-3 days' that should read

The Newton sponge lasts a while, it’s hard and although it gets worn away a little with each use it’s a slow process.

I use the O'Keefe's cream, I think it's called Healthy Feet, and it's worked brilliantly!

Flexitol or CCS or Scholl heel repair. Morning and night.

If the cracks are painful you can superglue them closed. Yes, superglue.

Regular visit to the chiropodist. Had mine done today £26 smooth as a baby's bum!

Footner is amazing. Leave it on for at least 2 hours. And after that at least an hour every day in a bowl of hot soapy water. It won't work if you don't soak feet daily. Getting your feet wet in a daily shower is not enough soaking and won't work. Don't be tempted to peel it yourself - it will drop of by the clump load all by itself. Patience is required but it is sooo worth it.
