Hair loss and thinning

14 year old DD's hair has always been about a normal of thickness, not really thick but certainly not thin however lately it's become very thin. It's not falling out in clumps but a lot comes out when she's in the shower and her brush is constantly covered in her. It's uneven at the ends (i think it's breaking easily for some reason) but she doesn't want to cut it as it's very long and she wants to keep it that way. No change in shampoo or conditioner, never dyed it, it could be stress related but I'm not sure. Any suggestions of what to do? Also are there any hair styles and ways of making her hair appear thicker as it's really affecting her confidence and I'm not what to do

It sounds like telogen effluvium which can be illness or stress-related. Was she either of these 3 months ago? It takes about 3 months to affect the hair. It will improve I am sure if so, don't worry!

Get her iron and b12 levels tested

Worth seeing a GP, it could be multiple things and depending on what it is there are treatments. Is she also loosing body hair?

I've had periods of thin hair. I went to the gp 18 months ago and I was prescribed strong iron supplements. I also used something called Caboki which is a fibre/powder that you sprinkle on your head to disguise thinning. It comes in different shades and it made me feel more confident. My hair has thickened up again now, possibly due to the iron. Take her to your gp.
