Do these exist- Trainers with Velcro not laces?

babyworry2018 · 04/02/2019 20:26

I have dyspraxia and despite many years of effort/criticism/cajoling I remain a bit rubbish at doing up shoe laces.

This is generally not a big issue for me: I tend to wear heels/slip on shoes or boots, but now I'm on mat leave with a baby that will only nap if walked several miles a day. I'd love some casual trainers I can wear with jeans but that have Velcro closings. I bought gazelles and five minutes out of the house I stand on them and undo them.

All my googling is getting me gorgeous Velcro gazelles, veja, new balance- for children.

Does anyone know where I can get a pair of velcro fastening trainers for an adult woman (size 5 1/2)?! Am I the only person who wants this? It would genuinely make my life so much better.

Decathlon? Or buy locklaces for regular trainers

FourteenCows · 04/02/2019 20:30

I’m not sure about Velcro, but you can get elastic laces (I buy on eBay - type elastic laces) that go in the lace holes so they shoes just slip on. They’re amazing!

CMOTDibbler · 04/02/2019 20:34

I use lock laces in my trainers due to disability, but if I wanted them for more casual looks like Gazelles, I'd get Hickies

mrsmonkey14 · 04/02/2019 20:37

Adidas Stan smiths come in Velcro version! I have some and they’re very comfy.

Nat6999 · 04/02/2019 20:39

Nike air rifts are brilliant, I've got dyspraxia & they are so good, I walk better in them, they are the most comfortable trainers I have ever worn

Lucked · 04/02/2019 20:39

Superga do Velcro in adult sizes.

May as well but the stretchy laces for you gazelles, cheaper than new shoes

BikeRunSki · 04/02/2019 20:41

Velcro Stan Smiths

M&M Direct sometimes have them cheaper.

championquartz · 04/02/2019 20:53

Veja velcro.

Betty777 · 04/02/2019 21:02

Both the Veja & Stan Smiths are currently very fashionable and with plain colour look cool and quite feminine

HundredMilesAnHour · 04/02/2019 21:24

I have some Veja trainers that close with velcro (and I'm an adult size 8). I only bought them because years ago I used to have some Prada Sport trainers that had velcro fastenings and I LOVED them. I wore them until they dropped to pieces. Prada brought them back last season (in their America's Cup range) but they were around £500 (whereas I'd paid £130 years ago) and I winced at the price. So went with the much cheaper Veja ones instead (£75 in the sale). Wish I had the Prada ones but....

DS found some in Decathlon recently. For his football boots I use elastic lace replacements but they are really fiddly to get in to the eyelets, even for non-dyspraxic me. Great once they're in place though. We didn't like Hickies as they're one size not graduated, we use these ones www.amazon.co.uk/INMAKER-Elastic-Trainers-Silicone-Shoelaces/dp/B01LLQFNDU/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?psc=1&keywords=elastic+laces+for+trainers&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&tag=mumsnetforum-21&ie=UTF8&qid=1549316390&sr=8-1-spons

As above there are definitely Velcro Vejas and Stan Smiths. Other Stories also have some www.stories.com/en_gbp/shoes/sneakers/product.duo-scratch-strap-sneakers-white.0631173001.html

chloechloe · 04/02/2019 22:05

I was going to suggest the vekcro Vejas too - I saw a lovely pair today randomly in the White Co catalogue. I’m considering the silver lace up version although I really do not need another pair of sneakers.

Then again, I have a sling napping baby too so perhaps they could be justified!

minipie · 04/02/2019 22:14

I have velcro New Balance in size 5 (38), bought direct from newbalance.co.uk. They are part of the Junior range which goes up to size 6 so should work for you too OP.

babyworry2018 · 04/02/2019 22:24

This is amazing! Thank you so much! Ive never heard of elastic laces or hinkies, they look like they could both solve the trainer issue and potentially even open up brogues.

And the Velcro trainer options all look great. I'm looking forward to doing some ordering tomorrow. I've literally spent two weeks trying to figure this out so this is incredible.

My Dd has dyspraxia. She has a lovely pair of brogues for school with elastic dress laces. I will take a picture and post in s bit. Nobody ever noticed. They are fiddly to get in but once they are in they stay put.

GColdtimer · 04/02/2019 22:34

These ones, a bit thinner than trainer ones: https://www.amazon.co.uk/INMAKER-Elastic-Silicone-Oxford-Brogues/dp/B01LN0RB8Y/ref=mpssa113?ie=UTF8&qid=1549319524&sr=8-3&pi=ACSX2366SY340QL65&keywords=dress+laces+elastic

WaxOnFeckOff · 04/02/2019 22:37

I have skechers very similar to these but a bit brighter colour touches - they are brilliant - just slip on but look and feel like proper trainers

YouWereRight · 04/02/2019 22:49

What about sock trainers?

NicoAndTheNiners · 04/02/2019 22:51

Boden have some nice ones currently.

GColdtimer · 04/02/2019 23:20

Just a note that the Veja ones are very uncomfortable for me. The pinch my toe just like converse do. They are also flat with no real insole.

Stan smiths are far more comfy in my experience!

babyworry2018 · 12/02/2019 10:19

I just wanted to comeback and say thanks so much. I just got a pair of the new balance junior range and they are great.

Will start by getting elastic laces for my existing gazelles, then investigate some of the other options. This is a whole new world of comfortable feet!
