Why does my make up never last?!

Tiredmum21 · 04/02/2019 19:45

I'd really appreciate some help on what I'm doing wrong! My make up never seems to last more then 2-3 hours!

I have a 1 year old so spend 10 mins max on make up in the morning - my routine is:

Aldi Q10 moisturiser - left on while i sort my hair
No7 primer - not loving this to be honestConfused
Revolution stick foundation applied with techniques foundation brush
Mac paint pot as eye primer then usually a mac eyeshadow
Bobbie brown lip & cheek stain
Mascara - usually some budget buy

Eyes usually are fine for the day but the rest of my face usually good like I'm unwell by about mid morning.. any suggestions?!

What kind of skin do you have? My skin is quite oily so I have to use mattifying products or my make up just slips off my face.

I haven't tried that foundation but for staying power I love estee lauder double wear. If I only have to last a few hours so go for Tarte clay stick foundation.

Also you could try setting spray, Mac Fix + or Urban Decay All Nighter are my faves.

justasking111 · 04/02/2019 19:49

No blusher?

Feelingfullandreadytoclean · 04/02/2019 19:51

I have the same problem. I can't afford anything fancy though so I just have to make do with a tired looking face by the end of the day!

nevernotstruggling · 04/02/2019 19:52

Are you not using any powder?????

NormaLouiseBates · 04/02/2019 19:54

I would echo the question about your skin type? If you have oily skin that might explain the lack of staying power...

Jupiter13 · 04/02/2019 19:56

Try wearing no makeup and your problem will be gone...good luck

GCAcademic · 04/02/2019 19:56

You need this:

www.urbandecay.co.uk/en_GB/setting-sprays/chill/ud805.html

And a long-wear foundation, like Bobbi Brown Skin Longwear (it’s not thick and mask-like like Estée Lauder Doublewear)

silver1977 · 04/02/2019 20:07

I have the same problem OP. I have switched to Estee Lauder double wear camouflage foundation (pricey but worth it as I don't need to waste money on stuff that doesn't work, I have melasma I need to cover up) and a little powder in T-zone, then Urban Decay All Nighter setting spray as recommended on here. Lasts a lot longer. I have oily skin.

justasking111 the OP did say she uses a lip and cheek tint

dudsville · 04/02/2019 20:10

Silver, may i ask how you apply the camouflage? I use it too but think my technique needs tweaking. I've been trying a suggestion to massage it on with fingers as you would a mousturiser.

Tiredmum21 · 04/02/2019 20:38

Thanks all sounds like I need to try a new foundation & get some
setting spray .. thanks for the recommendations @GCAcademic & @silver1977.

I'd say my skin is combination - slightly oily T zone. I also have patches prone to dryness in the cold on my cheeks & nose so don't tend to use powder as it dries them out more but maybe should try and use just in the T zone?

Try The Ordinarys primer. Its about £6 and brilliant.

Beautifullymixed · 05/02/2019 01:47

I have this foundation stick, and love it.
You do have to use a primer I have found though, and not always a matifying one either. It spreads beautifully with a hydrating primer such as Rimmel fix and perfect primer.
Also essential is powder. A light coat pressed into the skin, especially the t-zone, to set and ensure the foundation stays on your face is crucial.
I found with blotting mid day, and adding more powder (again, pressed into the skin), that I could get this foundation to last all day. Plus it looked beautiful as the day went on, not cakey or dry looking.

silver1977 · 05/02/2019 13:12

dudsville I apply it all over my face with my fingers to get a nice even coverage, then put a tiny bit more on my darker patches and tap it into the skin with a brush, or you could use finger but don't rub as it kind of rubs off, just tap it into the skin for max coverage. Do you like the foundation? It's the best I've found so far for covering my melasma but also the most expensive!

This! Great stuff (I use the ‘high spreadability’ one.

MountPheasant · 05/02/2019 16:39

I would say powder is the problem!

Beautifullymixed · 05/02/2019 18:18

Another vote for TO high spreadability primer. It goes on so smoothly, and foundation applies like a dream over it.
Well worth the money.

problem1234567 · 05/02/2019 18:21

Double Wear doesn't slip or budge. Highly recommend. Also gives fab coverage.

chxm19 · 05/02/2019 18:38

Hi OP, I used to have this problem also.

Try a good primer. Once you've applied this, set it with a little loose powder.

Then apply a long lasting wear foundation and a setting spray at the end.

PP mentioned the Urban Decay one - would definitely recommend also Smile

chxm19 · 05/02/2019 18:39

@Tiredmum21 I'm another who also uses the ordinary high spreadability primer!

RainbowWaffles · 05/02/2019 18:42

Setting spray can dry the skin out. Another vote for double wear as having super staying power! It can be quite thick though so make sure you moisturize first as if your face is dry, it can look a bit cakey.

dudsville · 06/02/2019 08:11

I love it silver! I stayed of with ELdW but i don't like the smell and it takes ages to build up cover (rosacea). I keep a bottle for holidays and times when i don't want full coverage. The camouflage however is lovely and creamy and covers well and is scent free.

After much googling over the weekend ive started using that elizabeth arden 8hr petrolatum gel stuff as my facial mousturiser (had been using a balm, i need the heavy stuff!) And have been massaging the camouflage in more. Great result.

MrsPerfect12 · 06/02/2019 14:33

Mac studio fix foundation with a powder and setting spray. Chemist make ups don't last.
You'll get a good 3 months+ out a decent foundation. Mines lasts a year probably as I don't wear make up daily. X

Chasingdandelions · 11/02/2019 23:57

Your skin sounds like mine. I love double wear but it's far to drying daily. Nars sheer glow is better for daily use for me and just set it where its oily, plus no flash back with nars. I find all primers actually reduce longevity of my foundation. Good luck finding what works best for you 🙂

Meagain19 · 12/02/2019 07:05

That foundation will be fine, you just need to powder and use setting spray.
RCMA powder, sleek blush, hoola contour powder, kat bond setting spray and hourglass ambient lighting palettes are my favs.
