Tinted moisturiser for very dry skin?

I’ve been using the Clinique tinted moisturiser for years but I’m not liking how it cakes in patches on my very dry skin. Can anyone recommend a tinted moisturiser that’s unlikely to provoke an allergic reaction (eczema and other allergies), works on dry skin, has a suitable colour for yellow-toned skin (I’m a burnished Winter) and will suit a 40yo?

I wear very little make-up, so I don’t want anything that’s too heavy. I’m aiming for a smoother, fresher look, nothing obvious.

I've also got very dry skin and eczema and was recommended NARS tinted moisturiser and have found it just right. Like you, I only wanted something very light and found the Clinque too heavy - don't know about the colour though as I am v pale.

I like Laura mercier tinted moisturiser but the lightest and most natural looking one that I’ve used is the caudalie one, so moisturising too.

Thanks, I’ll see if I can get a tester of the ones you’ve all recommended and see what works.

I love the Bare Minerals one - I think it's called Complexion Rescue. I don't have overly dry skin (more normal/ dry) but it seems to me it would work well for that too

I was going to recommend the boots no 7 one too. Also used the Clinique and liked both.

I had a look at the Boots one that a few people have recommended is only in stock in ‘fair’, which won’t work for me. Bother. I’m inclined to try the next cheapest, which may not be the right approach on S&B. Thanks, all!

If you have a moisturiser that works, try adding the Boots No 7 foundation drops

Out of interest, those of you who suffer from eczema, what causes it? My skin is currently the worst it’s ever been with dry, sore and itchy skin on my face and I am trying to work out if there is a trigger.

Variousartists My eczema is caused by a long list of things - stress, swimming, some foods, wool, touching animals (or someone who has touched an animal touching me), bio washing powder, fabric conditioner, lots of shampoos / soaps / moisturisers / creams. It’s very individual, though. I’ve found over the years that controlling my diet, rarely going swimming and using one particular moisturiser and soap keep it fairly under control, unless I’m very stressed.

I’ll never work it out if it could be so many of those things!

My skin definitely doesn’t like chlorine as it flares up after swimming. I’ve always thought it might be dairy but I’m not sure and if it’s stress well, I’ve got no chance.

FairyLightFiend · 05/02/2019 13:14

I’d second the Bare Minerals one. They also give really generous samples in little pots if you explain that you’d need to try it for a few days.

I've met people who have helped their eczema by cutting out all sorts of things, from caffeine to dairy, so to some degree you have just got to experiment and see. In my case it got a lot better when I switched to organic dairy.

What I've also found is that some things can trigger it, but I will react much more strongly when I am stressed, so the two kind of interact.

It's also worth trying Aveeno cream, and I find that taking essential fatty acids in mega doses also helps with dryness. And when it's bad, I do resort to steroid cream.
