Recommendations for brush cleanser

I usually wash my make up brushes once a week using a shampoo and then spot clean them in between often using a wet wipe but I am getting a bit lazy about the latter...

Actually I haven’t washed brushes for 2-3 weeks but I have loads of brushes so have been getting out a different set of brushes every week and now have about three sets to wash...

Anyway I am looking for a good brush shampoo that will get my brushes clean, not irritate my face and isn’t too expensive. I’ve used the real techniques one and it’s on. MAC is ok but doesn’t lather so makes me feel like they’re not clean. I like Johnson’s baby shampoo and I’ve used other shampoos that I’m satisfied won’t irritate me.

For spot cleaning I often clean my brushes on wet wipes but this used one or two a time and if I clean my brushes every day then this isn’t very environmentally friendly or economical. I’ve tried cleaning them on a tissue or on a wash cloth with some brush cleanser like kiko or elf or Mac brush cleanser but not keen on kiko or elf... ideally something with alcohol to sanitize

Any recommendations?

I’ve heard the cinema secrets cleanser is good but quite expensive and not sure it’s worth it

I’m tempted to go back to Johnsons shampoo and I have a real techniques brush cleaning mitt thing and maybe get some washcloths for spot cleaning?

Do you think it’s necessary to spot clean brushes every day? I used to do this but now don’t and feel a bit lazy. I think every other day would be ok

I use fairy liquid. I found baby shampoo wasn't getting the foundation out of the brushes completely, whereas fairy liquid gets everything out and works really well in beauty blenders too.

I tend to use foundation brushes once and then wash them, but that's more because I don't think they're very effective at applying when they've already got residue on them (and I have 4 to use, plus blenders). Cheek brushes I do once a week, and eye brushes get a quick wipe on a tissue if theres alot of product left on between uses, but otherwise they're washed once a week too.

Do you have a cleaning mat? Mine has been a game changer.

Yes I have the Real Techniques cleaning mat and it helps a lot.

I use mineral foundation so it’s powder but if I ever use liquid then I wash my brush or sponge straight away too. It’s not often though. I find blenders are difficult to clean but the solid soap that comes with them works well as did, widely, a mini shower gel I once got in a hotel room, but can’t rememver what it was.

I will try fairy liquid as the one thing I sometimes have trouble with is concealer on my concealer brush so thought might need some Olive oil or something but fairy might do it 🤔

I use Fairy and a cleaning mat. It works much better than Johnson's and I prefer the scent.

Fairy gets liquid foundations and liquid or cream concealers complerely out of my brushes, so hopefully it should work on yours. It's a very economical option too.

I have about three weeks’ worth of brushes to clean today so will try that later!

Invest in a stylpro, can get one for 40, it changed my life, no joke. The cleanser it comes with is brilliant, mine also came with a couple of brushes. I sat and did all of my brushes in no time at all and it dries them too

Thanks @Fstar That’s interesting 🤔 I had never thought about getting one of those but today it must have taken me an hour to wash my brushes. Granted a
I had a bit three week’s worth so three times as many as I’d usually need to do but it took ages and I find drying them a pain too.

I ALWAYS end up dropping them off the window ledge or whatever when frying them and then have to clean them again 🤦‍♀️

Best thing I have found for washing brushes is the 59p 4 pack pure soap bars from Aldi. Cheap as chips, gets them clean and rinses out easily. I've tried sooo many actual brush cleaning products and this is the best yet! I wash some of my brushes every couple of days (foundation and concealer) and they have suffered no ill effects from using the soap.
