Shampoo for greasy hair?

Blondie1993 · 01/02/2019 21:24

Can anyone recommend a good shampoo for greasy roots? I usually have the opposite problem but recently my hair is so greasy one day after washing max! I have been alternating between Aussie and the red Elvive.

Tresemme deep cleansing.

I've bought Vosene to see if it helps, as I've been really greasy recently. No idea why though!

I love juicy from lush is brilliant, so is their seanik sea salt one and one of the shampoo bars - a blue one I think x

choccybiscuit · 01/02/2019 22:16

The clay ( green) Elvive, it's amazing and really works for me

Anonanonanariston · 01/02/2019 22:18

Avoid anything with silicone in it (aussie) Are you in a hard water area? If so try adding in an apple cider vinegar rinse once a week to clear the build up.

I've recently started using one by Kerastase for oily roots and dry ends, the bain divalent, and so far it seems good.
Cantu cleansing shampoo is also a decent shampoo.

Another vote for the Elvive Clay.
DD has terrible greasy hair due to hormones, we tried everything until our hairdresser suggested that.
You don't need conditioner either, and hairdresser said try to leave the hair alone as much as possible.

A few of us seem to be having this problem lately. I wonder what's going on? I use lacura (Aldi) clarifying shampoo which seems to be helping. For me, washing it in the bath seems to help with really rinsing it out too.

EngagedAgain · 01/02/2019 22:29

Years ago the greasy hair shampoos were lemon based types, so think the apple cider vinegar would be good. The elvive clay suggestion sounds good too. I don't have greasy hair but I think over washing causes it and I don't over wash.

Bumblebee39 · 01/02/2019 22:32

Do you condition your roots? Or just your ends?

Misty9 · 01/02/2019 22:33

I definitely don't over wash Grin and Apple cider vinegar made mine worse...

LagoDiComo · 01/02/2019 22:33

I like the Elvive clay too

gobbin · 01/02/2019 22:47

I use Dove Baby head to toe wash. Also use Dove Baby soap on my hair.

Stopped using anything with SLS in ages ago on hair and body and my dry skin and greasy hair have balanced out very quickly.

FloofyDoof · 01/02/2019 23:26

I also use the Kerastase Bain Divalent, it's pricy but lasts ages and works well.

Chilledout11 · 01/02/2019 23:30

T gel the one for greasy hair.. lot of greasy hair threads here lately ?

cananybodyfindmesomeonetolove · 01/02/2019 23:36

I have found that buying a couple of different shampoos and rotating them has been better for my greasy hair. Also, I have always needed to wash my hair every day due to how oily it is, but I now drag it out to every 2-3, by using a small amount of cornflour as dry shampoo (way better for the environment and my health than aerosol ones). It has slowly been getting used to it!

MoltonSilver · 01/02/2019 23:44

I always have the same problem when it's cold. I'm pretty sure it's from wearing hats.

Livedandlearned · 01/02/2019 23:46

I've been using the lacura clarifying shampoo too and alternating shampoo every other day and its helped

halfwitpicker · 01/02/2019 23:49

Always wash it twice.
No conditioner.

Silicone free shampoo : as mentioned above, or johnsons baby shampoo, redken cleansing crème, Alberto balsam tea tree tingle.

Try to leave time between washing it, I know it's hard but does improve it.

Butterflycookie · 01/02/2019 23:55

Tresseme deep cleansing for me too!

BertBox · 02/02/2019 00:14

I've tried the Elvira Clay, Head and Shoulders, and just bought the T-Gel. None have made my hair decent enough to not wash every day - my DD has the same issue, though goes two days, though is noticeable greasy on second day.

Body Shop's green tea shampoo is the best I've tried, but still not good enough. I never thought I'd still have this issue at 48!

Blondie1993 · 02/02/2019 10:00

Thanks for all the replies. I'll probably pick up the L'Oreal Clay one today as I have to go to Tesco and it's only a few pounds in there. Had a look at the Lush one online and that looks great too! If they don't work I'll just start making my way through all the suggestions Grin. I definitely don't over wash - usually I only wash my hair twice a week. I wear it down the day it's washed then dry shampoo and plait/bun/pony tail for two days. I've never had this problem before! I also don't live in a soft water area or wear hats very often. The only thing that has changed is I now have a balayage so my roots are darker. I was going to go blonder again at my next appointment so maybe that will help dry it out a bit. Perhaps not the healthiest option for my hair though Blush.

It's hatd water that makes your hair greasy - it leaves deposits on your scalp. Best way to get rid is an ACV rinse.
