If you are considering a keratin treatment try this first!

I’ve been following the keratin treatment threads that proliferated before Christmas and have been umming and ahhing over going back to getting regular treatments after a year’s break. The cost (£230 in my local salon for my elbow length hair) puts me off, along with the fact it doesn’t completely get rid of frizz Confused

Anyway as a last ditch effort before I went ahead and booked one, I bought this:

Color Wow Dream Coat

It’s a heat activated spray - you apply it on damp hair before blow drying. I spritzed it around (not v carefully) and then did the ‘reverse blow dry’ as per Sarah Angius (link here).

That was 4 days ago. Since then, I’ve had the best hair of my actual life! The weather has thrown everything at my hair - rain, sleet, snow, wind - and it’s remained smooth and glossy. And then I washed it today, and just used my normal heat protectant (not the magic spray) to blow dry. The magic color wow spray appears to still be working despite shampoo and conditioning and it took me approx 10 mins to dry my hair into shiny, hair-advert hair.

My hair is not shiny, hair-advert hair. I have long frizzy, fine, dry straw. Tbh I am slightly agog at what chemicals must have coated my hair to result in this apparent transformation but, I don’t care swish and I thought you should all know. If you’re considering forking out for a keratin treatment and don’t mind faffing about for 10 mins with a round brush as per the YouTube clip, it’s worth a try. Your mileage may vary, etc etc..

Ive ordered this. Will report back!

evilharpy · 13/03/2019 10:12

Ooh this sounds amazing. Pricey though - how long does a bottle tend to last?

Grace212 · 13/03/2019 11:33

I heard about this product on another thread, haven't tried yet as wash hair daily so not sure.

but just to say, QVC have it, so that's an option for trying and returning if it's no good. No I don't work for QVC Grin

Colette · 22/03/2019 17:34

Thanks you for the recommendation Thewombat ,I tried the small bottle and am impressed.
My hair is much finer than yours and prone to frizziness, so this is a great help.Grin

CarpeVitam · 22/03/2019 18:08

I've also bought this on the strength of the OP's recommendation...it's amazing stuff! Grin

TheWombat · 22/03/2019 21:50

I am so excited to have spawned a little tribe of glossy haired people! My bottle is lasting aaages because I only use it about once a week- it seems to last through at least 2 washes. Quite interested in the kale treatment now following the advice of a pp..

What am I doing wrong?

I bought the small bottle, sprayed it on damp hair, then used Babyliss Big Hair followed by GHDs to dry/style. And the result is... kind of the same as usual. Do you need to use quite a lot?

TheKitchenWitch · 05/04/2019 13:54

Just bumping this because I also get a small test bottle to try and it is amazing!
I am growing out my hair so am keeping cutting to a minimum, and I’ve just had highlights to disguise the first grey strands. Anyway, condition is generally ok but with a tendency to frizz A LOT.
Not any more! Miraculous stuff!!
Thank you OP, excellent tip.

RosaWaiting · 05/04/2019 13:58

I bought this - sadly not from QVC because then I could have returned it.

it's not making much, if any, difference.

BabyDarlingDollfaceHoney · 05/04/2019 16:59

I'm still using and absolutely loving this, so thank you OP! I'm on my second bottle now.

TheWombat · 05/04/2019 23:24

@TheKitchenWitch what I do is towel dry my hair, spray in some leave in conditioner comb through, and let it air dry a bit more. Then I comb through a little bit of heat protection spray followed by the dream coat. I section my hair into 3 sections - back, and both sides, and spray about 4 times onto each side. I do that only every other wash, which for me is about once a week. I’m still on my first bottle and there’s well over half left. It works fairly reliably for me. Sometimes I get a better result but I think that’s more to do with my blow drying technique.

Part of the secret appears to be using a round brush and really getting some tension in the hair as I pull the brush through my hair, so that the frizz is straightened out. That’s why I find the reverse blow dry technique easier - much easier than trying to reach behind your head do do the back of your hair!

I tried using it with heated rollers to see if that reduced frizz while giving me curls - but didn’t notice any real difference in that way. So for me round brush + tension + heat + spray is definitely the winning combo..

I do have very long thick hair but I'm using a lot more of the product than you Wombat. I've found that unlike most products I actually can't use too much and the more I use the better my hair looks 🤷🏻‍♀️ I think that's why I got through my first bottle so quickly (well six weeks ish I think?) I'm also using it every wash at the moment because I'm using a clarifying shampoo, I only wash my hair once or twice a week though.

PositiveDiscipline · 06/04/2019 14:08

Wombat - fab hair Wink

How do you get the curl at the bottom of your hair layers? Looks gorgeous.

PositiveDiscipline · 06/04/2019 14:16

I just bought some of this via the link above and got 20% off with code: 20OFF

EspressoX10 · 06/04/2019 14:17

Did zero for my hair. Nothing at all!

Maybe it works on thick hair or different textures.

TheWombat · 06/04/2019 18:17

@PositiveDiscipline well, I dry as above, and then I tie it in a Markle-esque ‘messy bun’ for about an hour! That keeps the top bit straight and adds a curl to the ends. I have quite curly/frizzy hair, so it does hold a curl pretty well. My hair is super, super frizzy and very fine, but I do have a LOT of strands. It’s very dry and hard to manage generally- I know it really doesn’t seem that way in the photos but that’s because of the magic potion, not nature! My normal texture is more like Kate Middleton’s in this picture..

If you are considering a keratin treatment try this first!

I bought the cream and the spray after this thread. Spray is amazing. Cream is ok but not worth the money.

BabyDarlingDollfaceHoney · 06/04/2019 19:34

Oh wow. I have never seen Kate Middleton's natural hair before! I actually love it like that! I think she looks much younger and prettier that way.

RosaWaiting · 07/04/2019 10:43

I see pp saying they do a bunch of stuff to their hair after applying this product.

I was hoping for something to just spray on, blow dry hair and off you go.

in that respect - if others find this doesn't work - the cheap Tresemme smooth stuff is better than this.

RosaWaiting · 07/04/2019 10:45

"Part of the secret appears to be using a round brush and really getting some tension in the hair as I pull the brush through my hair, so that the frizz is straightened out"

if I cba to do that, then I wouldn't have looked for a spray initially. I go for a run most mornings so then when I wash hair before work, I just want to dry it and head out of the door. The round brush stuff would negate the need for a product at all, for me.

TheWombat · 07/04/2019 12:05

Rosa you’re so right, it’s not just wash, spray and go. But round brush + spray works for me, whereas the round brush technique alone, or with any of the 100s of others I’ve tried hasn’t. I do have very wild unruly hair though and as I said above, your mileage may vary.

I think 20 mins with a round brush, twice a week, is pretty low maintenance tbh. Previously if I’d wanted frizz free hair I’d have had to use straighteners every week which I really can’t be arsed to do. So this is a happy medium for me although I am sure it won’t work this way for everyone Smile

RosaWaiting · 07/04/2019 13:17

cool, glad you like it

"I think 20 mins with a round brush, twice a week, is pretty low maintenance tbh" yes, I wash my hair daily so this would drive me mad.

just saying, for anyone who is short on money and time, the Tresemme spray, you really can spray it on towel dried hair, blast dry it and get out of the door with much reduced frizz, so might be worth trying that before Color Wow.

Or buy your Color Wow from QVC so you can get a refund if it doesn't work for you - my mistake!

PositiveDiscipline · 08/04/2019 10:08

A round, bristled brush basically polishes your hair. I imagine the WOW makes it even more glossy as you polish. A bit like buffing a piece of silver.

StellaRae · 08/04/2019 10:14

Definitely going to try this - thanks!

RosaWaiting · 08/04/2019 10:39

Positive " I imagine the WOW makes it even more glossy as you polish. A bit like buffing a piece of silver"

I actually tried this this morning because I'm not in work till much later.

hair probably better without the Wow.

Different strokes etc. I'm going to take the bottle to work and see if anyone wants it. Wish I could charge for it! Would sell on ebay but lost the tip cap thingamajig.
